Re: SuperBase

@Elwood

I have never used SuberBase so can't really comment on it but I have started to use MUIBase. One of the main reasons for that is that you can get MUIBase on Linux (and Windows if you use that) and the potential for cross platform usability was a definite plus for me.

@Joeled

This could be interesting and potentially fun to play with (not to mention yet another reason to use the Amiga ;) ).

The other half bought me a brewing kit for my birthday. I have my second batch bottled at the moment and it should be ready for drinking in a few days.

@YoungHippie

The original link in this thread only links to the Windows version for which I think the sale is for.

The Amiga version is at http://rgcd.bigcartel.com/product/huenison-pc-amigaos-4

Make sure it supports SMB (CIFS). I don't know of any NFS solutions for AmigaOS4.

@LiveForIt

I have to say, as much as I would love to see a decent native Office Suite or even just a feature rich native Word Processor, I am finding myself using Abiword so I can also transfer it to my Linux box if I need to create a print out of the document as well.

I do have a copy of Cinnamon Writer installed which I have used for some quick documents but I tend to stick to Abiword due to the extra functionality I need and it provides.

As for Wordworth and Final Writer, I only own older versions of them and recent version copies don't pop up all that often these days.

Re: Radeon 9250 drivers for SAM440ep

I looked at doing this with a Radeon 9200. Basically, besides getting more GFX mem, it was not worth it for me.

http://forums.amigaos.net/viewtopic.p ... d1ae52681d86d9291a66b0856

It is doable since I tried it out anyway due to curiosity. From memory you need to change the monitor tool type to the name of the card ie. Radeon 9250. There is also a setting in UBoot you can change to use PCI GFX instead of onboard.

Sorry, I am at work and it was some time ago when I did this. I do remember it started having problems with the later AmigaOS4.1 updates which is another reason I stopped bothering with it.

@Hans

(off topic I know)
What is it with Kiwis and that Kea bird? ;)

A developer at a company I worked for some years back wrote his own light weight Windows FTP client for customers to use and called it KeaFTP. Yes, he was from NZ.

It was a nice little FTP client.

(Back on topic)
I would like to see a Python GUI framework for the Amiga, other than PyGame that is, and WxPython is something you can get Python bindings for.

>This is one of the few games I wanted to play... pity I can't as I don't have the PC version for the data files or a PC to install to to get the files from

Well, if you manage to get a copy of the game, then that's what you use DOSBox for ;) It doesn't need to run fast, just enough to get the game installed so you can grab its data files.

@logicalheart

The Logitech Dual Action joypad (G-UF13A) is what I have also been using to play MACE. I found it good to use.

Being able to kick back and playing an old school style SHUMP on the Amiga felt good. Just remember to calibrate the joystick before play ;)

My phone and tablet do but I will not be able to test them until Sunday since I am currently away from home. I didn't know it was supported but now I do, I want to give it a go.

@salass00

ext3 still has some use but to be honest ext2 is pretty useless now day an age, even ext3 is getting old. Generally speaking, I use ext4 for all my personal devices and the only servers what I manage which have ext3 were built 5+ years ago. If you are looking at doing ext3, how much extra work would ext4 be?

You could always try VNC.

I know in the grand scheme of things it won't mean much but I would just like to say thanks for the update. It is good to keep the community informed (and engaged) with what is going on every now and then, even when it is not so great news. At least we know that things are still going on and that the users have not been forgotten.

Unfortunately things do not always go according to plan and crap happens. Not just with programming but in all aspects in life. A small number of very vocal people on the forums need to recognise this.

As I already said, thanks for the update and it is obvious that those working on the OS and other AmigaOS prjects are doing the best they can and this is also appreciated. Unfortunately, it is a small community with a lot of work to do.

Very sad for what used to be one of most pro software on Amiga

Agreed. I know I was thinking about buying a copy for AmigaOS4 but when I looked into it a bit more decided against due to the problems listed in this thread.

I just bought the AmigaOS4 version via the RGCD web site.

If a CD version comes out, I will most likely get that as well. It will look good on my book shelf next to the copy of BOH I ordered a few years back ;)

I bought this game years ago when it came out so I have to say that I would be happy to see it ported to the Amiga. Something else I can play with when bored.

Thanks for the information about what was going on with argv. I will have to have a play around with abc-shell. Shame about the #! limitation though, would be nice to natively run perl commands in the regular Amiga shell with arguments.
