Re: Enhancer Bug thread

@broadblues
@AmigaKit

Minor issue:

When set to the "digital" mode, the clock v53.29 does not reflect the Locale setting for the date, even if the option "Settings/Date and time format/locale" is selected.

For testing purposes I have set my country to "Austria" the date format in Workbench is similar to the ISO 8601 Date format: "2020-04-10" but Clock displays it as "Friday, 10. April 2020"

X-Dock shows a little graphics glitch here on X1000. It only appears when selecting "rounded corners" in the X-Dock preferences.

Then again, HP did fix and update A LOT compared to X1000/CFE/UBoot/you-name-it.

See.. this means HP hardware is crap, they had to fix A LOT of things, whilst the X1000 firmware only has a few additional features:
- it prevents you to buy those cheep china keyboards (I apologise for riding the stereotype, dear Chinese Amiga friends!!)
- it prevents you to buy useless 2Gib of RAM (unless you use Linux maybe)
- it prevents you to buy a KVM so you will renounce up front to buy another expensive computer. One computer per person should suffice in this day and age. We can say X1000 is a Green Computer, it has environmentally friendly intentions.®by Great-Ah Bigfishmountn
- it prevents you to accidentally boot from a USB key when inserted at boot time.
- it prevents you to accidentally keep the key pressed... well no, it prevents key repetition when in the CFE "shell", and then wonder why on earth 50 "v" appear on the screen!
- it also prevents you to accidentally go to the first position of a line with the cursor by just one keypress when editing a command.
- It breaks the monotony of You Boot and introduces a much friendlier acronym for firmware!

You see, there are so many advantages and deep thoughts behind every feature. You might not recognise it, but all these features are early Christmas presents! :) :abitevil

But if you look at the Amiga market, 10 years means hardware finally becomes usable (from the software side)...well, partly, and not crash-prone, and probably not even fast...

here we go again! Complaints! Did I not just tell you these are all features!!!

Without a doubt, whe share the same opinion!

A programmable keyboard does sound nice but with 2 X1000s and an old XE I cannot really justify the expense.

I'm a bit sad it was not me who sold you the 2 X1000.. My answer would have been: "The keyboard? It works well here on my maschines.. 'never had someone complaining about that!
But I have two keyboards here that work well, I can sell them to you for cheap. "

mmh..

..or maybe.. maybe I would have just ignored you until you gave up! :) :evil

ahh, missed chanches!! :evil :evil

Com'on, be realistic, the X1000 was initially sold, when was it 2010? It's 10 years ago!! Try to go to HP and ask them to implement back a feature they inadvertently fixed out of the firmware of an HP Pavilion M6!! :sarcasticevil

And please, please post their answer here! :inneedforalaugh

Re: Relocate Amiga keys

@Raziel

yeah, there where some big grains of sarcasm in that phrase there.. ;)

However the majority of the perceived mood of the moment appears to be:
- users always demanding and bickering
- why should I waste my time
- I do it only for fun and as long as I have fun
- there is no money to increase my fun in it anyway
- I can not solve all issues alone
- my system works
- to me it is ok the way it is

and if that really is the mood, I feel not confortable blaming THE DEVELOPERS for not wanting to go the extra mile.

Was it for me, I would love to see CFE on the X1000 replaced by UBoot, the RadeonRX, USB, keyboard keys repeating, booting speed/time, KVM issues fixed for the X1000. Also the Amiga/Alt switch should be done on the "firmware" level too IMHO.

The early boot menu Mouse issues -out of 10 mice I tested, cherry, logitec and whatnot, 80% did only moove vertically in the early boot menu-

And the issue of not being able to move the mouse or use the keyboard when the system hangs. One can see the clock ticking but all imput is frozen and the reset button is the only way.

And another very annoying bug is the sporadic but often enough appearing bug of system freeze at boot when no mouse or keyboard are touched right away.
This happens on most machines so far: XE, X1000, Sam440. The X5000 i'm not using enough to to be able to tell.

To me, these issues decrease the mood much more than CANDI (which is pretty buggy too btw) can increase it.

@BillE

Since Amiga is an expenive hobby, every serious Amiga user should buy a proper higher-end expensive keyboard with programmable keys (Logitek, WASD Keyborad, Ducky).

This way you program the alt and command/Amiga/Win/Lunix keys the way you want!

You can not expect the developers to invest their time to fix something only a couple hundred people are affected by... evil:

Re: ZitaFTP Server user experience

@trixie

I will buy the Zita Server too sometime in the next months just to support the author Hans De Ruiter.
I don't really need it, as macOS -since MacOS X times- has had an integrated FTP and SFTP server. It's in System Settings -> Sharing. The newest macOS has SFTP only and one has to install FTP if he wishes to use it. (Eg Homebrew).
The macOS FTP Server can be accessed w/o problems with both AmiFTP and pFTP. The Secure Server only with pFTP.

Oh, this almost reads as if it is a hideous advertisement, sorry Trixie and Hans, it really isn't. I was about to delete the post, but I'll post this purely for its informational value. I'll delete it if it is bothering s.o.

@amigakit

@kas1e

Not really sure if it is related to the update, but now if CANDI is running and the option "CANDI Rotation" is selected, after a couple of rotations, the background starts flashing between the last and current "candi". No way to stop it, even if I quit CANDI using "Exchange" or "Exchanger" or if it "STOP CANDI" from the "CANDI Preferences" before I quit.

It happily flashes until the whole machine freezes. No GrimReaper, just Sibiria. A hard reset is needed. One single time I could see the clock continuing to count seconds, but the suppose the USB-Stack was already gone as no keyboard nor mouse were working.

I noticed this also happens if the machine is left alone, after a reboot. The System is pretty much vanilla except the Enhancer Package.

This is on AmigaONE X1000 with AmigaOS4.1 Final Edition Update 1.
The only Commodities I'm running from WBStartup are
- DefIcons
- ClickToFront
- ContextMenus
- RAWBInfo
- CANDI
- ClipViewer
- NotificationSever
- AsyncWB
- AmiDock
- DepthToFront
- setKeyAndMenu
- ScreenBlankerEngine (only one module active after 60 0seconds: Moire. As the system become unstable here with some other particular modules)
- sometimes FKey or AllKeys

I don't run anything else from User-Startup.

Maybe it is worth asking ChrisH, I found his quote here on a thread on amigans.net

@Raziel

Hi,
I took 2 random PNG on the net

http://www.pngall.com/kiwi-png
http://www.pngall.com/photoshop-logo-png

and tried with PPaint 7.3c and AmiTransformator from the Alinea-Computer website. (very neat little tool!)

Both resulted in 256col ILBM pictures. I could open them without problem in DPaintV AGA in e-uae on OS4.1.xFE.
I noticed however that DPaint can't load them, if the file name length exceeds 31 characters.

I don't think CFE supports the key swapping like UBoot does.

That is what I was thinking too, since in the meantime I plugged in 4 other keyboards without any success in swapping the keys..
The official A-EON KX1000-1 keyboard does not want to cooperate either.

In the official AmigaOne X1000 Firmware and Booting Guide (CFE) however, the CFE> setenv -p keymap_swapaltamiga "off variable is mentioned on page 12.

Re: Relocate Amiga keys

I had to plug a different keyboard to my X1000, and I'm having some difficulties swapping the Alt and Amiga keys.
Does anybody know on which machines the variable keymap_swapaltamiga is supposed to work?

On my AmigaOne-X1000 with CFE it does not, apparently. Unless I'm doing something wrong.
On my AmigaOne-XE it did not IIRC. I used the U-Boot key code remapping wich only worked for PS/2 keyboards

I had not tested it it on the X5000.

Once AmigaOS is booted, NVGetVar gives me the value

keymap_swapaltamiga=on

the same value is shown when I use printenv from the CFE console.
It makes no difference to the fully booted AmigaOS if the variable is set to ON, On, 1, Off, OFF, 0 or is deleted completely.

I did reset (reboot) the AmigaOne after each change.

I know I can swap the keys in sys:/prefs/Input, but when starting without startup-sequence the keys are still not swapped.
