Re: A1222+ memory interleaving

Quite a regular

Off topic:

The SPD is a small EEPROM on the DIMM which contains paramenters such as timing for that DIMM. Timing is normally very relaxed, such that it should work with every memory controller for a given operating frequency (JEDEC timing). A 1866MT/s DIMM operating at just 1300MT/s can benefit from reduced latencies. Especially in case of AmigaOS where access tends to be random instead of streaming.

Our u-boot is old and lacks the functionality to adjust DDR timing.

I have been playing with the thought of creating a small tool which allows you to adjust the timing stored in the SPL instead. (If the EEPROM is not write protected)

Needless to say that this would be a tool for advanced users only.

@sailor

Ok forget that SPD line, it is only printed for the X5000.

I don't see any particular restriction in u-boot why the Tabor would not support interleaving.

Tabor is configured for 1 DIMM with 2 chip selects.

It should be using SPD info

It should activate bank interleaving when the env is set properly and have found dual rank memory.

The line "DDR Chip-Select Interleaving Mode: CS0+CS1" Should be printed when it is activated.

But since the line isn't printed it clearly isn't activated for you.

It takes a deep dive to find the root cause why bank interleaving is not enabled. Which is a bit too much effort for me at the moment.

Can you give a bit more output? Is it using the SPD for configuration?

@sailor

Uboot is open source and you can request a copy from the ExecSG team. I would try Steven Solie.
amigaboot is owned by Trevor and is closed source.

Maybe the A1222+ has it's DDR on chip selects two and three.

You can try fsl_ddr:bank_intlv=cs2_cs3

Or maybe fsl_ddr:bank_intlv=auto works for you.

If they are on 0,2 1,3 or 0,3 then it is game over.

@sailor

It's a uboot env. Not specific to the X5000. The question is if the variable is just ignored or actually implemented for the P1022.

If you want to be on the safe side then you can clone your sdcard first with eg. win32diskimager. And then try adding the following to hwconfig env: fsl_ddr:bank_intlv=cs0_cs1 and see what happens.

@sailor

Yes, that is the whole idea behind rank interleaving. Each rank has its own chip select.

See my explaination here: https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/ ... id=128527#forumpost128527

By saving activation and precharge commands, you'll reduce overall latency and therefore gain about 10% speed.

If supported by the P1022 the it still needs to be activated in uboot. The X5000 has a environmental variable for that which is set to rank interleaving (and controller interleaving) by default.

Also in my understanding if multiple devices share an interrupt the interrupt handler should check each possible source and not ack the interrupt if none of the sources have active interrupt to avoid spurious interrupts.

AmigaOS supports only emulated IRQ. The driver is responsible for acknowledging the interrupt directly to the hardware.

The only administration for AmigaOS is to keep track of IRQ end messages versus interrupt vectors.

@Capehill

Is AHI 7.1 channel mode is already supported by SDL? It would be nice if game ports could use surround for that extra bit of atmosphere

I did port the AHIdev 7.1 demo to the latest SDK to help another developer out. So feel free to contact me if you need help with 7.1.

Edit: Just remembered that you already implemented it a year ago.
The clicking sound is caused by a quirk of AHI.
You need to do the following to get rid of it:
1. Create a sample frame buffer of [size+1]
2. Copy your sampleframes with an offset of 1 sampleframe
3. Set the address in struct AHISampleInfo to &buffer[0]+7

Same here but then with AMIstore. Still waiting for an email for purchasing Novabridge. Tried twice.
Apparently the mail is stuck in customs

Edit: Succeeded by selecting browser option.

@AmigaOldskooler

A lot more has been promised for end of last year.

The general rule of the thumb is that days, weeks or months are meaningless in amigaland. The only reliable timeline is: When it is done.

So all we can do is get a hobby while we are waiting

Graphics.library has an issue which prevents 4k@60.

4k@30 works fine on my LG oled TV. But this refresh rates results in sluggish window movement.

@skynet

As X5000 owner, you have the privilege of using NGFS (NGF\00 or NGF\02 if you have access to the latest version).
It is the best filesystem for NG systems.

I use a blocksize of 4096 and a buffer size of 6000.

Max transfer and mask values are ignored. So you can keep them default.

@Cool_amigaN

The short answer is no.

You need to inject power to the PCIex16 slot.

See my setup here: https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/ ... id=124483#forumpost124483

Only vga, dvi and Hdmi work. Display port is not yet supported.

Maybe that is not the only reason.
Amiga.org changed format as well. At least for me, when it went forum only, I stopped visiting that site.

@joerg

Wait, what? Aeon owns amigaworld.net?

I have a thousand opinions on that but it is better that I keep them to myself.

But this surely looks bad.

@Hans

Yes, this was in my memory as well. I can remember someone with a nickname MickeyC who started this site?

Things with Morphos seems to have calmed down as far as I can tell.

But the sites statement of intent includes 68k emulation and vintage 68k systems as well. Without further specifying if this is with or with our direct link to os4.

Ironically, the attacks on amigaworld towards os4 now come mainly from the vintage 68k crowd.

From that once proud Amiga City, only the sewer system remains.

And it brings out the worst in people. I can know because I just had an outburst. Therefore I've asked Sibbi to delete my account over there.

So I fully agree, let this place be no amigaworld.net

@noXLar

The idea is that this is a website for amigaos4 related news first. But 68k emulate and real vintage is allowed to.

I think that this site original started as "not morphos". When aros wasn't even taken seriously yet.

There are other sites that target other or all systems
