That's relief. I thought I'd been cut off!

Seriously though, New Zealand had a countrywide broadband outage over the weekend when Telecom, the main supplier, suffered a DNS attack on its servers. During and shortly after the attack many international websites were blocked.

I have the standard CPU fan arrangement and a variable speed controller fitted by AmigaKit.

Thanks to all the members of the ANT user group for the hospitality, cake and coffee. An enjoyable afternoon with like minded Amigans (even if it did take me 2 hours to get to Enfield by bus, tube and bus from Heathrow airport.)

Great, I just emailed MikeyC. I'm in London before returning to NZ on Monday, so will try to attend.

Just need to find the correct time and place.

That's certainly some fan you have installed. I'd imagine the Micro Motherboard would take off if left unattached? ....

Glad you are back up and running.

@Raziel

Don't be sad. I haven't tested a 6870 but as it's based on the Bart's chipset (as is the 6850) it may be OK for Linux use.

Re: X1000

Having tested over a dozen cards from the 4xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx and 7xxxx Radeon HD range my current favourites are:-

the passively cooled Sapphire HD5670, the half-height, single slot Sapphire HD6570 and the passively cooled Sapphire HD7750. These cards deliver a good balance between power, performance and noise level (i.e. no noise with the two passively cooled cards). In addition the HD5670 and HD6570 cards are both compatible with the most recent Linux kernel created by Darren Stevens, which is a nice little bonus. The two passively cooled cards take up more space but the HD5670, due to its form factor, does not use a second slot.

The 6850 is also a nice single slot card but does include an additional cooling fan.

I agree. Without ACube AmigaOS 4 would probably not have survived in its current form.

Hat's off to them for that.

Hold that thought. Maybe bookmarks are working with TW installed on a JXFS partition. Will report back after more testing.

TF - BTW thanks for all the hard work. Good to hear you are finally on the mend.

I was about to ask a similar question.

I have TW installed on 3 partitions

SF0, SF2 and JXFS.

From my prliminary tests, which are ngoing, I get the impression that Bookmarks still do not work (properly) on the JXFS partition?

why update 5 (update 2)?

Update 2 is the second official update provided to the baseline AmigaOS4.1 Update 5 iso supplied with the AmigaONE X1000 "First Contact" systems.

In other words, the current baseline for the non-betatest A1-X1000 system.

Re: Timberwolf RC2 available

Update

I've performed some comparative tests of TW RC2 on various partions (on a vanilla AmigaONE X1000 installation).

FFS (RC2 Files only)
SFS (3 RC1 files subsituted to allow TW RC2 to run)
JXFS (3 RC1 files substituted as aboce)

The performance of TW RC2 running from SFS & JXFS is practically identical and almost 100% faster compared to running TW from a FFS partition, when loading complex websites (eg bbc.co.uk & stuff.co.nz). The TW startup speed is also almost 300% faster that FFS. The performance difference on regular Amiga community websites (Amigans, AmigaWorld, Amiga.org & MorphOS etc) is less noticeable.
