@thread

For grins did a quick ebay search for PCI to PCI-Express adapters.

Looks like they are becoming a bit more common. Here is one from China only $25.99USD and free shipping:

I know from working on the win32 listview control the same limitation applies - one checkbox per row - always in the first column. For column-level controls you start getting heavy into custom draw code. Been there. Lived to tell the tale. A few souvenir scars.

Hopefully OS4 has a more elegant way to implement this type of hook.

Cheers!

Was update 1 going to be the one with support for the new A1222 and X5000?

I would pay if it was available.

Maybe he just doesn't want the pressure of having to maintain an "official" release. A perpetual beta doesn't have as high expectations from users.

At the moment most things involved with OS4/OS3 are labours of love anyways. I don't think anyone is going to get rich any time soon. But it would be nice to seem *some* sort of cash/loot get in the hands of the deserving. :)

A1222 FPU thoughts
Just popping in
Just popping in

I've been thinking about how the floating point could be handled on the P1022.

One thing I don't believe was discussed is a dynamic patching of the ELF binaries at load time. I've done a bit of reading online on ELF - there are a lot of cool ideas out there for patching binaries. But please I'm no expert.

First thought is simply patching the incompatible calls to instead jump into a compatibility library/shared object, or even some extra compatibility code patched directly into the memory space of the program at run time. This could be done each time the binary is loaded.

Second thought is patching and saving the patched version either into the EXE (fat binary) or into a side file. However it may not be worth the effort if the load-time patching is fast enough. I expect this to be true.

I expect patching of the binaries would perform better than working with the trap instructions. The ELF modules already go though a relocation phase - how hard could patching be on top of that?? <evil grin>

Thoughts?

Re: R7 250x HDMI output

@Hans

Suggestion: Perhaps the HDMI driver should provide a very basic default screen mode if there are no matching modes.

Something like a default VGA resolution of 1024x768 or 800x600 in either 24 bit or 8 bit? It could even show some sort of overlay that indicates no valid screen modes.

Yup, this is sounding a lot like safe mode on Windows. Run for the hills!!!

Could you explain your motivation behind this request? Why not simply run another PC?

In theory you could run the PC headless and access it with the Amiga's remote desktop client and use SAMBA for file sharing.

Cheers!

Nice work! Another FPS!

If you exceed the bounty by a large chunk I am quite happy to put in a little extra cash via PayPal... let's see how far you get.

@Hans

Welcome to the heartbreak of development. You climb a huge hill, deal with numerous technical challenges and hurdles, work late (often for days on end) and finally deliver something great.

The users say "Thanks"........ and immediately ask "Now can we have more" (!!).

You can never do enough. The only ones that truly understand and appreciate what you have accomplished are other developers. The rest have no idea. You just have to learn to deal with it, or take up farming...

Thanks to those who have contributed to the bounty and to feanor for offering his valuable services.

And of course to Hans for rattling the chains on this one.

Slowly but surely our little OS is growing up.

Off-topic: With an AmigaOne XE what is the best graphics card to use? Can a Radeon HD card work in these machines? Would like to take advantage of all the new graphical goodness coming in OS4.1 FE.
