Re: Which graphics card(s) do you use with AmigaOS 4.x (in 2016)?

So, what would have to change for you to get that X5000 + epic GFX card? What would this "better Amiga scene" look like?

I know that this is drifting off (my own) topic a bit, but those are interesting questions. We can always transfer this to a new thread if needed.

The whole web browsing issues that plaque OS4.1, the lack of hardware accelerated 3D i.e. Gallium or similar just a short list I don't want to bore people or derail this thread.

@Hans

Radeon 9250 in my Pegasos 2, if the Amiga scene was better than it currently is now I would buy an X5000 with the most epic GFX card supported by the platform.

@328gts

I would very much like to see a full up to date port of Firefox, I would contribute to a port be it Timberwolf or a new port that is not held hostage by the Friedens that supported full hardware acceleration. Lets hope the Friedens do release the OS4.1 changes so that it can it can be updated.

Timberwolf is awesome I just wish it was up to date so the latest plugins work and that it has hardware acceleration.

Solie has the code from the Friedens and has said he was going to put together a team but that was a loooooooong time ago. If there is someone in the community who has the time and skills necessary to take it on I hope they approach the Friedens for the source code.

The project is dead unless Solie and the team find the time to pickup from where it was abandoned.

Yeah I have been trying to encourage web cam support for a long time but it is such a low priority for AmigaOS development apparently.

@Broadblues

I appreciate that you can cut and paste a time line of video together in blender however blender is not a video editing suite. Openshot video is slowly becoming a powerful video editor like Adobe Premier Pro and Final Cut but at the moment more in the league of iMovie in its current form.

If all I wanted was a video time line editor I could use "Mencoder" or "Videoeditor" both are available on Os4depot, or we can use as you suggest "Blender" but I guess myself and many of the community would like to see a polished and powerful editor like Openshot, we aren't "Bemoaning" as you put it, a lot of people would support the development of such software so long as we aren't slapped down for wanting it.

I never said it would dominate the arena I just said it would be in the arena maybe in the outer row of seats or in the foyer at least?

With over 200 view of this thread there is definately some interest in this kind of software, and with the new graphics drivers and Hans investigating improving video playback by better use of Altivec, just maybe a quality video editor will put Amiga back in the arena of multimedia where it once shined brightly!

Video editor port for AmigaOS4

Just wondering if this could be a viable port for a native version for AmigaOS4?

http://www.openshotvideo.com

Openshot video editor is now being crowd funded to make version 2.0. The lead creator has said in an interview that anyone who wants to join the development team and contributes can receive the source code. He mentions using QT to develop the GUI as he is making it not only for Linux but also Windows and MacOSX.

I am not a coder but I sure would like to see a video editor this powerful for AmigaOS.

@ssolie

Thanks for your reply, it is a shame it has been put on the back burner because Timberwolf really is an important project to the health of the AmigaOS community such a software technology can not be allowed to pass us by. I appreciate the importance of new hardware not that I will be buying it anytime soon I simply don't get enough value out of the Pegasos 2 I own, I mainly browse the internet and do Video Editing and unfortunately my Pegasos 2 and OWB in AmigaOS and MorphOS doesn't cut it. I really had my hopes up when the Friedens had Release Candidate 3 out and hardware acceleration was next in the pipeline of its development then it all stopped.

Well I wish you all the best with the current tasks you are developing, I appreciate all the developers of AmigaOS, I will keep updating my Pegasos 2 and keep an eye out on the development of Timberwolf.

@Fairdinkem

Just to clarify when I say all video works I mean all except case number four that Fab mentions because of the possible issue with VEVO and spoofing as iPad does work around that issue.

Speaking of spoofing my findings only work if you set the spoof to firefox 25 in the preferences not just changing in the short cut menu.

@ Fab
@ Kas1e

After removing and installing scripts again plus switching spoofing to Chrome 32, the issue some what improved for me. The first Amiga video Fab had a link for started playing with the script then would revert to HTML 5 player and all controls ie large window mode, the full screen and resolution controls would disappear except the progress bar.

I then switched to spoofing as firefox 25 and all videos work with full screen also..... YAY! Only problem encountered is the full screen mode sometimes requires you to reload the page and try again, these pages are not using the script but the HTML 5 mode. The scipt mode does work but youtube takes over with html 5 mode it appears. I use to always use Safari spoofing which I think is now broken, it appears Chrome and Firefox 25 work however.

I hope my observations help you guys.

Thank you for bringing my edit to light but I still fail to see how it is a comment about that which I don't know about it was still my experience then and now and still relevant to now. I took it out because my comment could have been perceived as inflammatory so I edited it, not quickly enough it seems. My intention was not to stir up trouble. Thank you for your described work around I will try it thanks.
