Re: Some info leaked from AmiWest

@328gts

It's a commercial project and they want to make a competitive product, NDAs as well. This is normal for the wider computer imdustry.

Another example is the X1000 mystery CPU. A-Eon have explained they have had to keep the CPU under wraps until the X1000 hits the shelves because the manufacturer, understandably, wants to minimise the possibility of it's product being associated with someone elses failed product.

AROS is open source and even AROS developers seem pretty quiet most of the time on what's coming next, talking about big or nice things in store over the coming months but rarely discussing specifics.

@Amigo1

I have tried and is quite nice and demonstartes a possible solution, although reminds of Windows Control Panel a bit.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the existing AmigaOS approach to preferences with the seperate prefs programs in a drawer as has existed since the 80s, it just could use a tidy up and some 'consolidation' now that many bits have been added/updated over the years.

Personally I don't think the right approach is to put an additional 'layer' over the top of the existing system. IMHO it's not the right direction if you want to keep the OS from become bloated and have a small footprint, well organised and logical OS. The preferences programs themselves need to be fixed/reorganised to make them easier to use and more relevant to today.

@ChrisH

Some welcome additions, especially the aspect ratio/scaling options in WBPattern - long overdue! I do feel some prefs programs need integrating to make it easier to find things/more logical, e.g. into GUI prefs along with Palette and Pointer. With the resulting prefs program given a more user friendly name like 'Appearance' or 'Look' perhaps.

Wonder if MultiView will get any scaling options? I find it pretty useless when working with multi megapixel digital camera shots.

Previewing options looking good too, hopefully it won't slow down Workbench too much.

@kas1e

Thanks for the tip on Filer, picture previews are useful sometimes but don't really like having Easter running as it slows things down sometimes when previews not really needed.

@gerograph

Looks great, downloaded and tried to run but got stuck with a missing library that I couldn't find and gave up. I think it would be good to reduce dependencies on libraries that aren't included with the OS (if possible). Thanks.

@orgin

Great to see some progress so soon.

Still interested in creating a docky for Mixer, am working from an article on programming dockies I came across in Amiga Future, but could do with looking at some example code. Looked on OS4Depot and in OS4.1 SDK but not found any example source code for any of the existing dockies.

Anyone know of any docky source code that's available to look at? I think seeing the complete source of a relatively simple docky would help to get the ball rolling on this.

Noticed a 'bug' today in OS4.1 update 2...

When emptying trashcan, requester asks if you want to delete '1 drawer (and contents)?'. But of course Trashcan 'drawer' is not deleted only the files inside are deleted with this operation.

Would like to tackle the docky part as have been learning how to write these and could use a project now to make a useful one. However, don't really have the time or skills to tackle all the other suggestions alone at present.

Mixer source code released on OS4Depot

Davy Wentzler has uploaded the source for Mixer as no longer has time to work on this as he's kept busy with Audio Evolution.

http://os4depot.net/?function=showfil ... udio/misc/mixersource.lha

Tempted to have a go at doing something with this myself. Personally I think it's pretty good already, anyone like to suggest any new features that would be useful?

I'm thinking a Mixer docky might be nice.

@virgola

Interesting adapter, if I go for a Sam460ex I'll probably pass on an optical drive altoghter, possibly with SSD or some other flash option. Fancy a silent and compact OS4 sytem.

Hoping OS4 will ship on a USB stick for Sam460ex, as Apple are doing with OSX on the new MacBook Air, see http://news.softpedia.com/news/New-Ma ... e-USB-Stick-162114.shtmlc

There's a recently updated manual for Sam460ex which explains the situation with the SATA port...
