@geennaam

FROM the 460ex UM:

Quote:

The DDR controller utilizes 34-bits of the 36-bit PLB address.
The most significant 2 bits of the 36-bit PLB address (bits 28 and 29 of the upper 32 bit address) allow the 34-bit address to have an alias on the low latency and high bandwidth PLB slave segments.
Accesses with the upper two bits set to 0b00 are made over the low latency (LL) slave interface and accesses with the upper two bits set to 0b10 are made over the high bandwidth (HB) slave interface.

The internal SATA controller under AOS4.1 works in PIO mode because we didn't find any developer willing to write a DMA driver for it (it requires gather/scatter lists) Under Linux it works in DMA mode.

@geennaam

AFAIK, under AOS4.1 DDR and PCIE are located on the LL PLB segment (and mirrored on the HB) since it uses the settings from U-Boot:

#if defined(CONFIG_440SP) || defined(CONFIG_440SPE) || \

defined(CONFIG_460EX) || defined(CONFIG_460GT) || \
    defined
(CONFIG_460SX)

/*
     * Enable high bandwidth access
     * This is currently not used, but with this setup
     * it is possible to use it later on in e.g. the Linux
     * EMAC driver for performance gain.
     */

mtdcr(SDRAM_PLBADDULL0x00000000); /* MQ0_BAUL */

mtdcr(SDRAM_PLBADDUHB0x00000008); /* MQ0_BAUH */

@amiganuts

you can type it from the serial terminal, just boot without any media attached (sata/usb etc) and at the end of the hw init sequence you will have the uboot prompt on your serial terminal.

@amiganuts

from the uboot prompt type:

setenv x86_emu 2
saveenv

and reboot

@amiganuts

Use 3114 (preferred) or 3512 SATA controller, the 3112 was replaced by the 3512 since it wasn't very compatible with more modern devices.

@amiganut
Inside the Documentation/IDE directory there there are docs about how to configure the SATA controllers, take a look at the sii3114ide_conf UBoot envvar.

@amiganuts

RX cards (any model) aren't currently supported by uboot, but the machine will boot on AOS4.1 if the RadeonRX driver is loaded from the kickstart.
To be noted that the AOS4.1 installer doesn't have support for RX cards.

About your problems, the RX 580 doesn't show up on the UBoot output, it seems it isn't correctly set in the PCIe slot, or maybe the 8x pin cable from the PSU isn't inserted in the graphic board connector.

On the SD card there is the AOS4.1 installer, but we cannot include the new RadeonHD/RX drivers since these are separated commercial products, but if you buy the RadeonRX driver for example, you can put it on the SD (remember to modify the kicklayout in this case)

I also need to replace CPU fan, it's not laud but I can easily hear it. I think I will add some massive radiator to passively cool it.

On the left of the CPU fan connector there is a header J42, from which you can change the voltage applied to the fan, default is 12V, selecting 5V the CPU fan will spin at a lower speed (and will make less noise)

@PixelHi

booting from the SD card is usually fast.

If you have any other PCI/PCIe device attached, I suggest to remove all and boot only with the radeon 7750.

@PixelHi

if your using a gfx card which isn't supported by the basic RadeonHD driver used in the install CD, you need to replace it with a new one (V3 or V5 depending on your specific graphic card)

With the board you should have received a SD card, you can replace the old RadeonHD driver with the new one and boot directly from the SD card.

@geennaam

you are right, in the screenshot there isn't the CMI8828, I was in the middle to test some other PCIe cards and mixed it.

Anyway, here another screenshot, this time there are:

- Envy24HT
- CMI8828
- SATA 3132 controller
- USB3 controller

Resized Image

To be noted, currently under AOS4.1 there are some issues, for example Ranger 1.59 crashes when opening the PCI Bus tab, and the Envy24HT driver freeze the machine when playing the test sound in AHI Prefs.

I'm using the 16x slots (x4) version.

I can confirm the ASMedia ASM1184e PCI express switch works on the Sam460, U-boot correctly detect it and the attached devices:

In this case I used 2 sound cards: VIA VT1723 (Envy24HT) and CMI8828 (HD Audio)

Is a 39VF040 usable as a replacement for 49BV040?

If this chip from SST, then yes, you can use it, but to program it you need to use the 2015b updater, since support for this model was added only with this release.
