Re: WHDLoad icons

@mritter0

I suppose the "WHDLoad icons" are mostly PNG images with a ".info" extension. So usually the png.iconmodule should be involved. Maybe the combination of #?.iconmodule and info.datatype doesn't work reliable.

Re: Ancient HP printer drivers

@gerograph

Doesn't feature the Fritzbox both access methods? My "Telekom" branded router (+ USB3.0-HD serves) as a SMB-Server and as a FTP server. The latter is my hassle free access method for my Miggy systems.

So - in theory - the printer could push it's scan result via SMB to the HD and then that could be fetched by FTP from the Miggy.

BTW: I use Ethernet printing since ages, because our "multi system household" doesn't really work with connecting a printer directly to a computer. So I don't know anything about USB or whatever direct connect to AmigaOS systems.

@gerograph

It's a HP Color LaserJet Pro M277dw.

Works with AmigaOS 3.9 (netprinter.device) and AmigaOS 4.1 (lpr.device). I use a HPxxxx Workbench driver (for PCL) or sometimes the Workbench Postscript driver.

I must admit that I didn't test colour printing yet (I only have use cases for pure black/white printing...;.)) - but it should work i.e. with a PCL aware color driver (I assume you can use an *ink**desk*jet driver then...). For AmigaOS 4.1 maybe the HP Photosmart driver from OS4Depot does work as well.

Scanning is of course not working out of the box.

Nevertheless a sneaker network by using an USB stick works well. Further it features the "Scan to E-Mail" or "Scan to (Windows) Folder", which could be used from AmigaOS as well. I haven't tested that yet. If you have a NAS in your local network, which can be accessed from your AmigaOS machines, the latter should work. Maybe even our ancient SAMBA could be a solution (alas your Miggy serves as a SMB server).

You can use any HP driver wich supports PCL. You might use the Postscript driver as well, it should be supported by your HP. At least my HP MFP color laser jet does.

@JosDuchIt

Forget it. CMEditor worked great with the past versions of the Context Menus - I used it to configure and tweak my own context menus. Since Final Edition it doesn't work anymore, because the new version(s) of our Context Menu system isn't compatible anymore.

Sadly there's no update to CMEditor - I would really appreciate that!

@LyleHaze/@broadblues

Thanks for clarification! Though I'm happy with my networked local printing setup - I use both PS and PCL btw. - it seems indeed a nice way to broaden printing possibilities for AmigaOS.

Yes, please excuse my ignorance - I don't know what it is and why I should need that, especially because

I'm with Roman here - I only use PS/2 peripherals with my Pegasos II. I even bought those AmigaOne/OS keyboard and mouse from Amigakit with PS/2 on purpose. Both work flawless.

Re: Qt beta

I didn't follow this thread to closely, but I installed the lastest Qt just yesterday. I found that a whle bunch of "older" Qt software (f.e. like QDevelop or QXmlEdit or my own port Checksum-qt4) instantly crash on startup with "Use BOOPSI Menu Class for menus" option enabled.

Is it only me? Is a recompile of that applications something that might help? BTW all of them seem to crash somewhere in a intuition.library call.

Re: vpdf ? vpdf!

@kas1e

In theory there's no need for Turboprint. AmigaOS itself is able to generate Postscipt files using the right printer driver (or sometimes even the application itself - like Wordworth or VPDF ). What you get is a #?.ps file that can be sent to a PS enabled device (like jabirulo did by sending it via lpr.device to a HP PS printer) or saving it by using the "fileprint.device"...

GS is only needed if you want to *display* or manipulate that #?.ps file. As I said: in theory. I'm not at home atm, so I sadly can't do any helpful tests with my setup...
