Re: Updates of FastView, SysMon, FastCompress and NetDock
Just popping in

@zzd10h
I don't think that helps as I use both DOPUS4 and DOPUS5 on different public screens so unless MUI allows me to pass different setting from the command line each time FastView is run I have no way of getting the window to open on the correct screen.

Ideally I would like to be able to use FastView in Multiview replacement mode from either or both versions of DOPUS at the same time with out losing the ability to use FastView in normal mode on my Workbench screen.

Yes I know I am being greedy but for some file management operations I prefer DOPUS4, for others I prefer DOPUS5 and running Programs I still prefer just to use Workbench

I guess I have just been using an Amiga for too many years an become a bit set in my ways.

Anyway keep up the good work as even though my little sam440ep (mini-itx) is not as fast as my modern PC I still use it rather a lot thanks to programs such as yours

@zzd10h
Cool, thanks for the update to FastView

Now can I make a couple of little feature requests

First when run from an AmigaDos command prompt with the ? option could it would be nice if FastView returned a list of the available command line options like standard amigados tools.

Secondly could you add the option to open on a selected custom screen, that way I can make files opened with Directory Opus open on my directory opus screen.

Anyway thanks again for updating another useful amiga picture display tool.

Re: Timberwolf bookmarks now working for me

@magnetic
We have waited this long for a usable Firefox port for OS4 I have not given up get, my I don't expect to see Timberwolf finished any time soon either.

OS4 and development and related software seems to take a long time sometimes with not a lot of visible progress, then there will be a period for a few updates and a lot of progress then things slow back down again. So I expect the port will get there in the end and be a good alternative to Odyssey and our other browsers for stubborn sites that we just can access other wise.

Last I tried Timberwolf was also in an unusable state on my sam440ep as well.

Re: USB Printing
Just popping in
Just popping in

@Chris
Well on my second attempt I have managed to print from ImageFX4 with my Epson Stylus DX4050 printer/scanner using a Raspberry Pi (512MB model B) with CUPS and your ipp.device driver.

My first try resulted in printing a page of ASCI PS-Adobe-2l0 EPSF-2.0 instructions as I had selected format: EPS (the default) instead of Format: PS Mode: ASCII.

So as this is the first time I have printed under OS4 I would say using the IPP.device driver and a Raspberry Pi is worth a try to anyone else having problems printing under OS4. You can even run AROS hosted at the same time using AEROS like I am doing if you want your print server to feel like an Amiga as well

Edit: It would seem I can even print from PageStream3 using the postscript module but it looks like I will need to 1. learn how to use PageStream again as its rather complex and I have not used it much since the 90's, 2. Tweak the print settings a bit as the output was no were near as good as from ImageFX4.5.

@Chris
Any change of a Mini tutorial on setting up the raspberry pi with CUPS as a print server for OS4 using ipp.device?

As it seems to me like it should be very cost effective of making any USB printer with cups support a network attached printer for your OS4 system.

I just want to take the opportunity to say thanks for fixing the install script type issue with OWB little issues like that which are easily fixed are always worth looking at in my opinion.

As its one less thing to fix for a clean install of OS4 and the software most commonly installed.

I finally got a chance to try out the latest development release last night under OS4.1 and its feels really good to have DOPUS5 running on my sam440ep at last. Its like the missing part of AmigaOS that I did no realise how much I missed it until I got the chance to use it again

So I just want to thank everyone involved in this project for all there hard work and brining OS4 to our NextGen Amiga's.

Re: Trouble with Nightlong

@AmigaMark
I have Nightlong as well but never managed to get it to run without graphics corruption on my sam440ep mini-itx system.

I have installed all the files listed in Helge's blog as well in the past without any luck.

It interesting to see screen shots have no graphics corruption so I will need to give Nightlong another go with all the current OS4.1 Updates downloaded and installed and see if that helps.

I don't think the warpOS emulator library is stable on newer OS4 systems as all the other classic WarpOS software I have also tends to crash so you may have more luck with the 68k executables than the PPC ones.

You can find the 68k game update here http://www.amigafuture.de/downloads.p ... 799e987e316c79215478ab486

and the PPC one here http://www.amigafuture.de/downloads.php?view=detail&df_id=505

But I would try the 68k version fist and see how you get on.

@kas1e

I would be very happy to see a release this year. We have waited along time to have Opus Magellan running on next get Amiga's and a few more months is not really a big deal.

I am also accustomed to seeing open source projects slow down development speed wise over the summer in Europe as people chose to spend more of their free time doing outdoor stuff rather than sitting in front of a Computer.

Anyway keep up the good work and don't forget to allow yourself some time for doing other none Computer stuff as well so you don't get burned out on this or other programming projects

Keep up the good Work I am sure I will look forward to trying your next OS4 release on my little sam440ep and hopeful using it under AROS on my Raspberry Pi at some point in the future.

It good to see all Amiga camps working together for a change especially as I use most of the Amiga Flavours as they all have their advantages and I prefer to use the right tool for the job rather than argue over which tool is more useful.

Now back to playing Lotus on my Minimig for a bit

@MH2
Thanks for the setup links for installing the latest SDK with Cubic IDE as I have recently reinstalled CubicIDE under OS4 and only have the old SDK setup that is required my the supplied installer.

At the moment I am just using Cubic IDE with my new copy of Hollywood which works very well, but I would like to get back into C programming on the Amiga at some point in the future so having the latest Amiga OS4.1 SDK installed will be useful when I do.

Would using ChocolateDoom not be a better solution?

As its designed to look like the original doom and be 100% compatible with the original DOS version of doom which did not support hardware 3d.

I think you can count on one hand the number of people "demanding" DOpus Magellan.

As for writing versions for multiple OSes, that is another waste of resources. The clones have failed to take over the world, there is no point in trying to keep them going. Do it for AmigaOS only and eventually we will get everyone back into the same system.

As someone who has donated I can say that I am not "demanding" DOPus Magellan, for OS4, AROS or any other platform, I am just doing my bit to free up access to the source code for the Amiga community and Allow the binaries to be legally freely distributed to run on 68k Amigas, AROS, Emulators etc.

For me its not that important it is ported natively to next generation Amiga platforms although that would be nice if it were to happen at some future point.

The money being asked is not unreasonable for free use of the source code and a licences to use the name for distribution of binaries for a commercial product of this size.

How often do you use the dvd drive?
There are one slot gfx cards avaiable i think. Check acube or similar site. If you only have one hd you can use that on the onboard sata controller. And the gfx card in the 16x slot. And a sound card in the pci slot. And have a sata controller card in a safe place to use when you need to upgrade the os. If you use the dvd only for ripping/playing music you can plug in a usb dvd drive.

Or how about his for a mad option you could use the onboard sound and single sata port then plug a supported PCI graphics card in and us it until to get hardware 3D until OS4.2 is released then upgrade to using a PCIe graphics card then.

That way you get a fully functional faster Amiga now without going backwards from your existing sam440ep-flex

@alfkil
I would not risk it with the Voodoo card personally as if its really just a 5V card it could do real damage to your expensive sam

As you had other U-boot problems recreantly I am increasingly beginning to wonder if it is a flat battery issue you are seeing, do you have any old PC's you could try borrowing a battery from to see if it helps or a multi meeter to check the battery voltage?

Do you have a spare PSU you can try as I have had similar problems in the past then my power supply was failing.

The other long shot is do you have a spare BOIS battery you can try as I know U-boot does not seem to work properly then the battery is flat for some reason.

@alfkil
As annoying as the shadow bug may be on the sam440ep, it does not make the game unplayable, the real problems are the crash game crash when you explode and die and the crash on exit. Have you had any luck working out what causes them and fixing them?

If the crash bugs can be fixed they would make the game quite playable on my sam440. It would also be nice to fix the black box shadow bug you are working on but that seems less important to be, unless the crashes are related of course

Anyway thanks for making Napalm playable and taking a look at wipeout as well
