Re: OWB 2.4

For some reason though I can't drag and drop on WB when I have OWB running.
Fixed in 2.6, it updated some gadgets even if nothing changed. If something changes and gadgets are updated icon dragging on the workbench is still cancelled, but there is nothing I can do about that and it should happen with all programs, not only OWB.

Please Joerg, can you respect, where it's valid yet, Amiga Intuition Style Guide? AmigaR+C = Copy, you have associated this shortcut to "Close page", if you will implement c&p on browser AmigaR+C will be use from the user for "Copy on Clipboard".
Version 2.6 has copy&paste support now and of course uses the standard shortcuts (<RAMIGA><C>, <RAMIGA><X> and <RAMIGA><V>). I've changed the "Close window" menu key to 'W', AFAIK there is no standard key for closing the current window.

Hi Joerg, OWB is shaping up very nice. Can you add drop down history on the address line for your next version for recently visited websites? (This could be saved to a text file and re-loaded automatically when you start OWB so the history si preserved)
Before implementing completely new features I want to implement everything OWB Blastoise had (downloads, bookmarks, arexx port, ...) in OWB Doduo first.

Quote:
The progress bar and number of network connections (I think OWB is limited to one?) could also be nice features, and bookmarks as in the older version.
Progress bar is implemented in 2.6. It's using up to 5 connections.

OWB 2.6

Just can't stay away

OWB version 2.6 is available now, new features in this version are support for an unicode fallback font, tooltypes for configuring the unicode font, min. font size and font DPI, a progress bar and clipboard support.

For the 3 or 4 users still having problems with programs using shared objects I've build a statically linked executable of OWB 2.6, but since the static libraries are older there may be more problems and everyone else should use the normal version.

edit: I just re-read some posts and I guess these are links which must be produced by javascript.
It's not just javascript, any link which would open a new window, in this case it's because of target="_blank", is ignored by OWB. In OWB 2.4 you can open new windows manually with the menu, but OWB itself can't open new windows (yet).
OWB was created for cell phones, PDAs, etc. where you don't have any windows at all, the complete display is used for the single page it displays, and such a limited browser is no problem.
In OWB 1.x (Blastoise) I simply changed such links to open in the same window instead, but not in OWB 2.x yet since I'm trying to find out how to make it work correctly and let OWB create new windows itself.

first of all i admire your effort and wouldnt want this to appear as any kind of critic. but havig installed both the os4 and the 3.9 on my a4k rig i still prefer the latter. i tried the 1.3 owb version and admittedly it was really slow on the real 060. but would that be to much work to adopt owb to run in wos environment?
Is there a GCC version 3.4.x, or preferably 4.x.y, for WOS? With GCC 2.x.y it's not possible to build OWB at all, and even with the GCC version 3.4.0 I used for the AmigaOS 3.9/m68k port of OWB Blastoise I had to change some OWB sources to be able to compile it.
Additionally since all libraries, especially the C and C++ libraries, are m68k a WOS version would probably be even slower than the m68k one because of the huge number of context switches.

So maybe, since I saw that you got multiple windows to work (manually) in 2.4, the next step would be to let such links open in a new window, not in the same one?
Yes, but I haven't found out how to make that work yet. I've asked on the OWB developer mailinglist but got no answer. Simply intercepting such links and open a new window with the URL, which would be similar to what the OS4 port of OWB Blastoise did for downloads, wouldn't help much since for example JavaScript "parent" wouldn't work.

Certain type of links doesn't work (links which are printed in/from javascript).
OWB ignores links which would open a new window.
In the AmigaOS4 port of OWB Blastoise I changed such links to be loaded in the current window instead, but not in the OWB Doduo port yet.

The new version really looks great. But if you want a really big page to test for memory consumption try this one

http://drupal.org/project/Modules/name
For such a huge page with lots of images there is next to no difference in the additional memory required for the page, but the total memory required by OWB is quite low compared to other browsers:
OWB              183 MB
Links            197 MB
Opera            203 MB
Epiphany
-WebKit  204 MB
NetSurf          275 MB
FireFox3         393 MB

Not for new windows which should be opened by OWB itself yet, for example target="_blank" links, only manually opening them for now.

Actually, you won't see anything that the 1.24 didn't show you yet.
The CSS support in WebKit improved a lot between the version used in OWB Blastoise and the current one used in OWB Doduo.

You can try my AmigaOS 3.9/m68k port of OWB Blastoise on a very fast PC with UAE (due to a bug in the CPU check it IIRC has to be set to emulate a 68060 although 68020+FPU should have been enough). It's not the current version of OWB (Doduo) and it doesn't have a GUI, but except for the fonts the rendering, CSS, javascript, etc., support is the same as in the OS4 port of OWB Blastoise (versions 1.x).

OWB 2.5

OWB 2.3 supports tooltypes for the window size, home and search URLs and I've implemented AmigaOS scroll bars for the main frame.

In version 2.4 the horizontal scroll bar is fixed, I've added menus and support for multiple windows (only opening them manually, not by links or javascript).

OWB can open new windows itself in version 2.5.

Looks like there is a problem with some characters:

LIST: No information for "work/AmiCygnix/home/jack/.sylpheed-2.0/imapcache/imap.gmail.com/jackitg/[Gmail]".
LIST: object not found
[...]
That directories with pattern chars don't work is a bug in C:list. AmiDVD doesn't have such a bug, if there are no other problems I don't know why it doesn't work.

Just a thought. Have you tried this with "on the fly" option checked, to eliminate whether it is the image creation, or the writing that is at error?
It doesn't get that far.

@Jack
Please try if "list ALL source_directory >ram:list_output" works without problems and errors, for example check if there are unresolved soft links reported in the list output.

There seems to be 2 different fixes for dma.
1. dma fixed but stops gfx cards from working.
2. dma fixed that allows gfx cards to still work.
There is only one and it's the same on an ?A1 and an A1XE with the 'IDE fix'. It doesn't stop gfx cards from working, "only" using 2 gfx cards (one in the AGP or PCI66 slot and one in a PCI33 slot) at the same time.

I smell a real competitor to OWB hehe, you wait for one and then two come along at once... :P
CSS support may be nice, but for most sites a browser with CSS but without JavaScript support is much worse than a browser with JavaScript but without CSS like AWeb and IBrowse. If NetSurf would be something usable, or at least could become something usable only a few years, I would have ported it 2 or 3 years ago already, instead of starting with the OWB port this year.

It's working here. When does it stop, after selecting the source directory or while creating the image file? Which file system(s) is/are used on the 2 partitions?
