@Cool_amigaN Quote: Also, how do I uninstall the on board passive cooling from the gfx? I strongly suggest you to not remove the passive cooling from the onboard gfx chip. By it's nature, with the 4 gfx ram chips on the top of the gfx chip, it's a fragile components from a mechanical point. If you need to cool down the Sam, a fan blowing air on both cpu and gfx heat sinks is enough.

Check if the Radeon monitor tooltypes report "INTERRUPTS" If this is the case, correct it in "INTERRUPT" without the ending "S"

@TSK Quote: Ringhio started to have a problem again. At first after installing Update2 it worked fine but now when it's started it uses 100% CPU usage and eats memory(DiskLed docky shows something is reading from the hard drive also during that). It does that a little while. Sometimes longer and sometimes shorter time before it stops doing so. I don't know/remember what I've changed in my system recently (maybe nothing). How big are the following two files ? ENVARC:ringhio.appsprefs.xml ENVARC:ringhio.miscprefs.xml If they are bigger than a few KB, please email them to me. @xenic Quote: Aside from that, I'm not convinced that it's wise or safe for a program to write directly to a screen that's owned by another application. Intuition public screens are designed to accept foriegn windows and requesters but I think that slapping a block of text directly on the screen may violate some of the same rules that old programs are accused of breaking. That's just my personal opinion which is probably worth about 2 cents Ringhio uses standard window.class objects to show messages on foreign screen, thus it's playing by the rules

@Chris
Are you using the Arexx interface? I don't remember if Arexx supports non-US-ASCII characters.
Could you please provide me with the string you're sending to Ringhio, to replicate the problem?

@orgin Quote: Imho if the SAM doesn't already have big warning labels attached to it warning that you really need a SATA DVD or with clear descriptions on what other ways can be used then that really need to be corrected by ACube. Uboot on Sam supports booting from HD or DVD attached to the following interfaces: - onboard SATA (ports J20 and J23) - PCI SIL 3114 SATA card - PCI SIL 3112 SATA card - PCI SIL 0680 PATA card All a user need to do is to set the preferred booting devices in Boot Sequence/OS Multiboot Options menu, as it happens on an AmigaOne / microA1 in case you had to boot from an interface different from the onboard VIA.

@DaveP
You can boot from a CD/DVD connected to a Sil0680 PCI controller this way:
- connect the CD/DVD as master on the Primary IDE Channel of the Sil0680 controller - connect the SATA HD on J20 - enter UBoot menu, Boot Sequence / OS Multiboot Options and select SII PATA CDROM as Boot Device 1 - Save settings and reset
Now the Sam will recognize the CD/DVD and will load the kickstat files from the OS4.1 Install CD.
If, for any reasons, the boot procedure stops at the "Insert Disk" animation, try setting from the UBoot prompt:
sii0680ide_conf 2000 saveenv
Hope this helps

@all (same post I did on AW a few minutes ago) there is an easy way to test if the board is fully functional, install Linux and test the Flex with it. Just download Debian from here: http://www.acube-systems.biz/download ... testing-sam440ep-CD-1.isoIf the board shows no problems (as we expect), then you have to wait for an AOS4.1 fix from Hyperion (which is under work already) In case you have the same problems with Linux too, we'll replace the board under warranty.

I'm trying to connect my Sam to our new HD TV which has a 1920?1080p mode, but the best I can get so far is 1280?720 (or something around that). I use the DVI output, a high-quality DVI-HDMI adapter and a high-quality HDMI cable.
The DVI port of the ATI M9 chip has a limited bandwidth (155 Mhz) compared to the VGA port and the maximum resolution it supports is 1600x1200 You can try to reach 1920x1080 on DVI, but you need to lower the refresh rate to around 50 Hz (if your HD TV support it) In the Radeon icon tooltypes modify the following entries: VSYNCMIN=50 MODE=1920x1080@50+RB Another solution is to lower the vertical resolution from 1080 to 960 or similar value.

@joerg
Yes, you're right the version on the Debian cd is totally useless for AOS4.1...
n the meantime we're developing a new Uboot and Parthenope versions which will be able to boot multi OSes avoiding the current limits of boota
Therefore the suggestion is to wait a few more days for a new UBoot release.

@Faranheit
It seems you're following the old AmigaOne procedure, which isn't suitable on Sam.
You don't need to install any kernel via "dd" as happens on the AmigaOne, the Debian install procedure will take care of all.
Once finished Debian will be bootable via the "boota" command as it happens with OS4.1
When the installation procedure prompt the "missing kernel" message, just skip it.

@Faranheit
The suggested procedure is the following:
- Install first OS4.1 on the HD - leave space on the HD to be used later for the Linux partitions - as OS4.1 boot partition use only FFS - then install Debian (with the ISO from our web site) - the install procedure need a fast internet connection (it's a net-install CD) and may take several minutes - create at least 3 partitions:
????? boot partition, 100 MB size, ext2/ext3 filesystem ????? swap partition, 2 Gb max size ????? root partition, ext2/ext3 filesystem
- At the end of the install procedure, a new bootloader (ub2lb) will be automatically installed in the hard drive RDB
That's all, at the next reboot Uboot will show you two menu entries for the multiboot

@Radov
The onboard memory option has been removed, mainly for an economical reason, therefore you can use only the DIMM 100 slot, which means on the current Sam440ep board you can have max 512 Mb ram.
Every Sam440ep comes with a suitable 512 Mb DDR memory stick.
