Re: Test run

Not too shy to talk

@alfkil
Sorry to say, but somehow I find the new native Font/Rendering Version not that mucht faster compared to what we had before. This is on SAM440 mini@667 / onboard gfx. However it might show it strength, when it comes to longer text scrolling etc.

here is a bug
When using the textedit example with native fonts you can not see "bold" text, even if you marked it and chose "B" in the Toolbar. Probably it's not even a bug, it is probably how AmigaOS handles fonts.

What so ever, still great work, and really appriciated - BIG THANKS. Wondering how hard it is to code a basic wordprocessor (lets say with the capabilities of FinalWriter or Word 97) ?

Hi, great work, this is something I could have a use for !, seems much easier to handle than id3tagLibGUI...

I did just a short test run, and yes very impressive, here is a bug:

When editing something into the string gadgets, it will be lost when I resize columns of listview. Guess codingwise you need a workaround somehow...

A few suggestions:

- Clean up the GUI a bit... What are all those inactive checkboxes for ?
- A way to easy copy ID3TAG V1 fields to ID3TAG V2 fields/gadgets
- Is it possible to obtain album art from the net ? This would be a "killer" feature...

O.k. you got a new supporter here...

Re: iBatch (Image batch processing tool) update + support thread

@mbrantly

Yes, it works... but:

once you donnot have a file extension, iBatch will check wether file is supported by datatypes, if so, a thumbnail will be created (checking takes much longer though, then just checking via file extension).
The problem is, that iBatch's internal thumbnailviewer only checks by file extension, so once the thumbnails are created and iThumb will pop up, you won't see any images, neither can select any !

Workaround: Select any other thumbnailviewer e.g. thumb from the PicShow package, inside iBatch prefs. Or just copy desired files from "../yourdir/thumbnails" into "ORIG:", "ROTR:" or "ROTL:". -> refer to manual.

@all

iBatch V 1.4 had been released since a couple of weeks, according to download numbers, it seems people are enjoying it

Here are some more news:

1) "Tuxedo" is working on a "LoViewthumb" version, which can replace iBatchs internal thumbnailviewer. However this can already be achived with existing LoView Version, seems like the new Version will feature something like an "iBatch Mode" !

2) I am just betatesting/working on Version 2 of "Image2Icon-Capsule". Version 2 is much more advanced, than Version 1 currently included in iBatch 1.4 release:

1. create dithered Amiga OS 3.5 Icons
2. create Dual PNG Amiga OS 4.x Icons
3. keep aspect ratio (might result in a "messy layout" of your Icons - see pic1)
4. crop Icons, in order to have Icons with same hight and width (results in a better layout - see pic2)
5. scale Icons, in order to have Icons with same hight and width
6. Use EXIF embedded previewimage or thumbnail in "thumbnailsubdir" if existant (massive speedup of icon creation)
7. Will work as standalone (therefor sort of alternative for "easter", "Image2Icon", "thumbgun"...) or iBatch plugin
8. determine Icon's defaulttool,
9. add black border or glow effect
10. determine Icon quality

If you just want to create Dual PNG Icons, you donnot even need "Image2Icon" CLI Tool !

I use Cubic IDE, which is an advanced Texteditor incl. Syntax Highlighting (not only for html,...). It got some nice buttons which help you with Layout/Frames:

Table Editor:

Plus a lot more, like extensive helpsystem, web compatible colorpallete, Fontstyle,....

@carvedeye
Depends on what you want to do ? A Coder will probably tell you something different than a gamer or a musican (like Kicko). I use my Amiga for:

1) CRM/Customer Database -> MUIBase
2) Wordprocessing (at least my invoices) -> FinalWriter 97
3) Batch processing for my digicam images -> iBatch
4) Presentations for my company -> Hollywood/Designer
5) Image manipulation -> ArtEffect, fxPaint
6) DTP/Fleyers etc. for my company -> Pagesstream
7) Converting CD Tracks into MP3 -> Adripper

Consider those ones above as the last proggy I use in my workflow, this means I might need some more little utils to achive my result: FFMpeg + GUI, Filer, Vector Drawing with Amifig, burning CD with FryingPan, MakeCD, id3TagLibGui....

What about making a poll about the featured donation ? (Oh no another poll.... )

- people would be kept uptodate about ongoing projects...
- even people who donnot want to donate, could somehow participate (Sure, the donators should decide whicht project is important, on the other hand we could judge wether donators opion is d'accor with every ones elses opinion)

@Tuxedo

Guess Thilo "wanderer" Köhler is far to bussy with different projects (HD-Rec, Amiblitz, NTUI (gui libraries/includes, A/A++,....). So I guess it is not motivation or lack of hardware. It is more a lack of time. But... to my knowledge Thilo (Wanderer) does work on PPC related stuff... His A/A++ progamming language + IDE can generate code for different platforms.
However I think Thilo is a very talented coder/engineer and it is a pitty that he does not focus on OS4.x related stuff. But as he does it all in his spare time, he is free to do so and to decide what to build/code.

I would, however lend him my SAM440, as a new machine will approach soon...

I love Filer... I donnot use DOpus at all, ergo = great. However, speaking of useability/userinteraction, there might be some additional ideas. We may open a new thread about that... I could contribute there

Anyhow, before I get so far, I need to port KDE, and I have no clue how difficult this is going to be.

Hm... will you find out ? How hard is it to find out ? Is it harder then Qt ? So, we are not any further until we know that. But if it is possible in a reasonable time frame this would be a mega milestone... just a few things I suggest:

It has to be fast and usable also on SAM's. As I guess this implies updating of AmigaOS 4.x, you definitely have to make sure you get every support you want from Hyperion. They need to inform you exactly on what they are working and what the priority is... (e.g. Priority on Mesa/Gallium, PrinterSupport...). If KDEOffice/Calligra happens and will be usable for everyday work this could be more then vital for Amiga Platform, so I guess Hyperion should support this Project.

@kas1e
O.k. this did the trick, "CallFig2Dev" is therfore obselete. Having an embedded preview inside eps file would be nice... I'll investigate options on that, best solution would probably to add this in fig2dev.

O.k. re-read this thread (which took quiet a while , this seems to be an important hint:

I'll try, once I am at home again, if that works, CallFig2Dev can be deleted from recent OS4depot version...

@kas1e

sorry, I am not able to call fig2dev, I have got the feeling, there are several things wrong....

BUG report:
Under Preferences - I/O I entered "F2D Command": Work-1:Amifig/CallFig2Dev
1) Load an example find correct path (e.g. Work-1:Amifig/examples/aircraft.fig) as main window title.
2) Call Export/via Fig2Dev... -> Errormessage:
ram:tca.2/aircraft.fig examples
Invalid arguments
for fig2dev

3) Path in main windowtitle becomes incorrect "ram:tca.2/aircraft.fig"

further BUGS:
Listview entries under Preferences/Display/PageFormat are only shown after each gets selected or after initial scrolling

I would be willing to write a fig2dev GUI (But sorry kas1e would be Amiblitz/Wizardlib or NTUI), once we fixed the BUG/figured out how Fig2Dev is called via Amifig.

However, somehow I cannot figure out how to export via fig2dev (CallFig2Dev)... I've got the feeling, there is something wrong with argument parsing, besides that executabel bit and script bit is not set for CallFig2Dev.

I'll keep on trying later...

yes, sure. Does that mean neither eps export nor formular editor is included/possible at the moment ?
I am just asking from the user perspective, if possible, and how (which Icon/Menu + how to setup).
