Try this

Type in a shell and return (cut and paste if you like)

NVSetVar sii3114ide_conf 1102

This tells the system you have a harddrive in unit 0 and 1 nothing in unit 2 and a DVDRom in unit 3

I have 1112 since I have 3 harddrives and a DVDRom

Type NVGetVar to get a list of your currently set config

See how you go!

p.s.

Type this in a shell and return

idetool -l sii3114ide.device

It'll tell you what is in what unit #

It might also raise more questions, so I'm off before it starts LOL

If you give me a few hours and I'll be home from work and I can answer your question, in the meantime what are the units you have all you devices in?

0 and 1 for HD and 3 for DVD?

Hi guys

I don't know how useful this will be back you never know... google socketmud and check it out for examples etc?

I used to compile alot of different mud codebases back in the day and I just remember getting quite a lot of feedback on this particular barebone codebase for learning sockets etc...

If not, sorry for the wrong detour :)

Some factions are always willing to discuss anything and everything instead of enjoying the moment... It is as if they aren't looking for the next door worth opening or to the horizon trying to predict the next move nothing productive or insightful is happening... or worse, they aren't an active member of a forum! God Forbid heh

It reminds me of a bloke I had little time for at work whos sole function in life just seemed to be to exist and to 'ask the question' in his own words... yet the man never had a personal opinion on anything, always said, I don't know what the answer is but I know its not that...

But yes, I'm a very firm believer in allowing whatever to occur or unflold by those whos choices are the only ones who can make those choices... It doesn't matter if something goes astray... it's there right to try and fall short...

The world is hell bent on helping the stupid, but does this actually help humanity? It would be faster to help kill the stupid and purify the human race quicker of this lacking DNA... LOL

If you don't want to sit by the way side then start something yourself not poke people in the eye trying to motivate them with your personal ideal or preference about something you've decided to shine light on... lol

I'd rather see threads of people enjoying there Amigas and Threads of people sharing info... and not worry about things that aren't in our hands...

You want to promote the Amiga, then just talk about it... if you want to give it more exposure, talk about it outside the forums...

I never promote the Amiga I only give my opinion when computers come up in usual conversion... generally, the rest takes care of itself if you get my meaning...

I don't mean to offend anyone I just have some fairly strict ideals that much of the world could benefit by just adopting a few heh

Yes, one day I may write that book but to tell you the truth, I'd rather push the button and start again... not until twenty years though so we can enjoy our X1000s a time

Nope you're fine, all that means is my replacement PIC chip has arrived and I haven't installed it yet. So it will change to (in use) and the 733 will go back to (backup) or (retired).

Although, I might be running both of them shortly.

Re: What's the best file system for AmigaOS 4.x?

I have all 4 SATAs filled

1 DVDRW
1 TB Harddrive 1 partition with JXFS
1 500g Harddrive 1 partition with JXFS
1 350g Harddrive 2 partiton 10g Boot in SFS1 and rest download partition with JXFS

I've been using JXFS for months and before that SFS2 and never had any problems.

I also format with NORECYCLED, I'm not sure if this adds to the stability of the partitions but I think it probably does... if you're afraid of deleting the wrong thing then slow down On occassion I delete the wrong file and even the wrong directory, it's never a major but it is annoying, but I don't care the benefits I think outweight human error...

adios!

here's my shell startup

$VERShell-Startup 52.1 (15.12.2006)

Alias Clear
"Echo NOLINE *"*E[0;0H*E[J*" "
Alias Cls Clear

Alias Bold "Echo NOLINE *"*E[1m*""
Alias Normal "Echo NOLINE *"*E[0m*""
Alias Underline "Echo NOLINE *"*E[4m*""

So it's ready for anything whether that is mencoder, flac, gcc or similair... well, generally it is

Yes, I prefer to use the shell than some gui probably because I do alot of my own batch files

Re: How to send a fax

Quite a regular

I always wanted to do this from a business point of view... ie, scan and send it through the net to an actual landline fax machine (for people who will never be cpu savvy - we still operate a fax because some people still prefer to use it *boggle*)

But as far as I know to do what I want means you need some provider service? does anyone know another way? or how do you do it

---

Just re-read your post there Chris, can we elaborate more? LOL
