Re: A1SE dead again

@abalaban

well, I don't know if it is worthy now, maybe instead I should save for a new SAM Flex. I don't think I will be able to afford an X1000 when available.

Hope you get your CPU back soon. Back to Debian for now.

A1SE dead again
Just popping in
Just popping in

After 3 days setting up my recently revived A1SE, I was enjoying playing and testing BOH, AmiCynix, 1941, new SDK, Cinnamon Writer and all that cool stuff that appeared during the last couple of years, when it decided to die again.

This morning while editing Amidock prefs it froze and now it doesn't boot. I had unplugged and plugged everything again and no luck. No display and no disk activity. Maybe this weekend was its last breath. It was fun for a while again. I'm sad now.

@ssolie

Thanks. Got rid of the error during installation after updating AOS4.0 final with the july 2007 update, which I first forgot.

I'll update to OS4.1u1 as soon ASAP.

And now you should really update to 4.1.
And get a hd controller instead of the onboard one.

And a better sound card instead of the SB 128.
And a Radeon 9250 instead of the 7500.
And USB 2.0 NEC chip card.

The fun goes on!

@emeck

A little update. Enabling UDMA 5 for the harddrive makes the installation get to the Welcome message. Still the popup of the hub drivers appears and neither mouse and keyboard work.

More testing :)

UPDATE:

It was my PS/2 keyboard!! Booting without it let me finish OS 4.0 installation. My A1SE is alive again! (well, needs a new keyboard).

set a1ide_xfer AA00 (which means setting the master and slave device on the first ide chain to the lowest DMA mode; goes from A to G iirc) PIO modes were lower case iirc; a to g (not sure though) not to forget saveenv aswell as set a1ide_conf 1000 (which sets the master on the first chain to HD, "2" would be CD/DVD)

Thanks, that was the command I need. Also, found this page which might be useful for others: Amiga Auckland.

I'll play with setenv a1ide_xfer after the memory test is finished.

Help installing AOS4.0 final (SOLVED)
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hi guys,

after some fiddling (new battery, cleaning and resitting the gfx card), my A1SE is booting again (it was packed for 3 years back home).

Now I'm trying to install AOS 4.0 final but no luck. Loading from the install CD, after the message "Loading done, now launching kickstart" screen goes black for a couple of seconds, then the Boing Ball and insert floppy image appears (again for a couple of seconds) and then the Workbench Screen comes up but empty except for a message window:

USB hub notification
Hub driver was unable to add the attached device.

with an OK button.

The window stays for around 4 seconds, disappears and then comes again, and again, and again... Meanwhile, Num, Caps and Scroll lock lights are flashing.

This is the same wether I turn on or off both USB ports in UBoot. I have tried with 2 IDE HD, 1 CDROM and 1 DVD ROM. Just a Radeon 7500 connected.

Any help would be appreciated

Forgot to mention, I'm using onboard VIA IDE. Does someone knows how to set different PIO and UDMA modes from UBoot shell? I remember at some point being unable to boot to Workbench using PIO modes (that was since UDMA was added to the VIA IDE driver).

@ChrisH
@Desler

I think the best way would be to use available open source resources for importing/exporting file formats. Maybe enabling CW to use the plugin system of Abiword or just port to CW some of those plugins. Here is a list of them: Abiword import/export plugins

That way, Desler can focus on developing CW itself.

Hi, just to let you know that finally got BOH Linux version running under Debian amd64, instead of using the windows version with wine. It runs without problem.

Thanks again for the game!

Hi Chris,

my U-Boot is the lastest. So then I just need the 4.0 final ISO. I can't find it in the downloads at Hyperion. I'll ask one of the guys there.

Thanks for the tip.

Lastest AOS 4.0 installation
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hello all,

after a couple of years I have my A1SE back with me and want to install AOS4.0 (lots of software to try and play with like amicygnix, BOH, OWB, Tunenet, SabreMSN and more!).

I have my OS4 prerelease and july 07 update; between those I remembered having downloaded an ISO that was like a complete install, but I can?t find the CD now.

So, my question is, how to setup the latest AOS4.0 for A1? What updates should I have? Is july 07 enough to update OS4.0 prerelease?

Next step will be buying AOS4.1 when I can afford it.

Ah, yes, your order is the one I've processed terribly late () because I was presenting BOH at the VIDEO GAMES HISTORY 2K9, a show that was held on the last weekend in Monza, a city very far away from here...

No problem, I was expecting a reply by today maybe, not sunday :) How was the presentation at the show? Hope you got more people interested.

Just for curiosity, from which of the OSes BOH was released has come the most interest until now? Is there a great difference in tastes of users of those OSes? I don't mean just in sales but also in comments and expectations.

At last I've got some extra cash and have ordered BOH. Still I have to wait for the funds to be transfered to my paypal account.

I've been playing it with wine in Debian and I like it very much. Keep the good work and hope to see more releases from you.

Hmm, wouldn't it be a bit annoying to have the filer change position and width while browsing the file system?

Maybe it can be done checking if it is opening a filer window and apply the position tooltype it it corresponds to the drawer bieng opened, or if it is being browsed in an already opened filer window, in which case it would remain in the same position?

BTW, you are doing a nice work with Filer.

@cygnusEd

I have it running under Linux. Downloaded from here. They have builds for i586, powerpc, amd64. And also Symbian and Sun, and the sources. Don't know how hard it would be to port to AmiCygnix though.
