Yeah, but ktadd's point is it shouldn't be saying that it was an error. It's a normal situation, so it should just be an informational message (if shown at all).

Brilliant!

Seems to be made by Shoe, long time Swedish Amigan, who was also one of the forces behind the AmiGBG shows back in time, and lots of other activities in Sweden.

Nice one, Shoe!

Is there maybe a mistake in the character set on the Amiga side?
Well, only that AmigaOS does not support Unicode/UTF8, which you probably use (by default) in your editor on the PC. You could try (if your editor supports it) switching to ANSI for at least that source file before saving it.

Or avoid using the copyright symbol and replace it with e.g. (C).

(All assuming I am correct in guessing that the extra character is part of a UTF-8 sequence.)

@Primax

Nice work!

I have a few other little things I noticed which you might want to look at:

Quote:
What is required for the installation?

As mentioned in the first paragraph, update 2 of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition should be installed.
Maybe it should also be mentioned that there were some single updates released after the main update 2, the latest ones not long ago. I'm not sure if they are necesarily required to use the SDK, but it's always a good idea to be as up to date as possible.

IOW, use AmiUpdate.

Quote:
...you should check, if Startup file is fine and if these new lines have been added:

;BEGIN AmigaOS 4.1 SDK assign SDK: Work:SDK execute SDK:S/sdk-startup ;END AmigaOS 4.1 SDK
Some line feeds are missing here.

@kas1e

I think it was made for the X1000 - it is supposedly a remake of the original boot sound from the Amiga 1000, which the X1000 is named after. So that's probably why it was only activated there.

@samo79

No, not US time. The schedule is showing the times in your local time (according to the browser). On my Firefox on the PC they are UTC+2, while on Odyssey they are for some reason UTC+1.

Steven was on the schedule at 8:15 PM or 20:15 (UTC+2) - that's 11:15 AM local California time, I think.

Indeed, when I check on the Hyperion site, I see that Update 2 has not been registered... I am surprised that it has not been done. Usually, I carefully note this kind of information. But among my registration keys, I do not have the one for 2021.

However, when I look on the selection menu for the products to register, there is nowhere the possibility of registering Update 2.
No, you misunderstood me - you do not have to register Update 2 (which is a free update), only OS 4.1 Final Edition itself.

Quote:
When I connect to update.amigaos.net to do the update, i.e. with the same password as on the Hyperion site which works well, AmiUpdate seems to do a search on the server, but returns nothing, neither result nor error. Is it possible to produce a processing log?
Yes, have a look in the Prefs/Updates program, on the last tab page, the top group. There you can state the name of your log file, and also set the chekmark for a verbose log.

Hi, I just found out that an update to newlib was released in April this year (version 53.80)
No, the 53.80 update to newlib has only been released to the public a few days ago. It was created in April, but has been in beta since then.

Quote:
I've had trouble logging into update.amigaos.net in the past. My password did not pass. So I was advised to check amiupdate.codebench.co.uk in AmiUpdate and it worked.

This is apparently no longer the case, at least as far as newlib is concerned. Have you noticed the same thing? Am I alone in this case?
The newlib update is not available through the amiupdate.codebench.co.uk (or amiupdate.net, which should be the same) server, that one is only for third party updates.

Newlib is a system component, part of OS4, and should be offered to you through the update.amigaos.net server.

Of course provided you have given it the right credentials. These should be the same as the ones you use to log in on the hyperion-entertainment.com page e.g. to view your registration details for OS 4.1 Final Edition. And of course you also need to have this version registered there to get access to the update at all. You probably also need to have it updated to Update 2 first.

Niels

There actually are release notes. Try looking in SYS:Documentation/ReleaseNotes, which is where the installer puts them. If you don't have a directory by that name then the release notes are not installed. I think the standard location for release notes is SYS:Documentation/ReleaseInfo, so maybe that's the problem.
Actually, the normal procedure is that if SYS:Documentation/ReleaseNotes doesn't exist, it should be created. That seems to be a minor flaw in the AutoInstall script of Newlib. (But most other updates will do this, so it will almost always exist anyway ...).

As for SYS:Documentation/ReleaseInfo, it is obsolete. It used to be a directory where AmiUpdate put some short descriptions, but that idea was (AFAIK) abandoned. But this dir has never been the place for proper ReleaseNotes files.

@msteed

Aha!

You've nailed it .

Yep, works like that here as well.

Thanks for clearing that.

Not the most intuitive way for it to function, though. I'd probably have made some obvious button for the toggling of checkmarks instead, which could work regardless of what was highlighted or not.

Click out of the Pattern string container first!
Yes, of course - otherwise it just inserts a space in that gadget.

When I test it, I open a window on WB, then use WB's Window->Find menu item. The Find window comes up with that path at the top, followed by all my partitions underneath. All entries are checked. I then uncheck the top path and then hit the space bar, expecting the selection to toggle so my path is checked and all the partitions underneath are unchecked. Instead, only the checkmark on that path (which is now marked/selected in the listbrowser) changes - off/on with each hit of the space bar. All the others remain checked. And I can't get rid of the selection any more, only move it to another line which then behaves the same (toggles that line's checkmark when hitting the space bar).

But I tried - before having touched any lines in the lister - clicking next to the string gadgets as you described, i.e. remove the focus from the pattern gadget. If I then use the space bar, it toggles ALL the checkmarks. But that can also be acheived with the Select all/Clear selection menu items or their hotkeys.

I was hoping to have found a quick way of ending up with only the top line checked.

In my X5000/40 I have an ESI Juli@ PCI, an SiI3112 PCI and a TXA005-8111x-17 gigabit ethernet PCI express. (I don't use the latter, as I use the internal gigabit ethernet instead.)

The graphics card is an RX560 from Gigabyte.

Sound works fine, both under beta and under public configuration.

@VooDoo

I'm not sure what else I can come up with - this is very strange.

I just booted my public partition on the X1000 (I usually work on my beta partition) and checked my AmiUpdate installation there. It works fine with no problems like yours.

My AmiUpdate version on that system is 2.48, but that shouldn't make such a difference.

The only thing I can think of is that you have the third party server listed first, so that is searched first (I have it the other way around), and in the log there is an error message about an entry with an invalid syntax. I believe I suppressed that a long time ago using the Ignore feature - but anyway, try simply deactivating the third party server in your prefs, so you only search the AmigaOS update server. That way we are sure it isn't something like that error which confuses AmiUpdate. It may be a long shot, but if nothing else, your log will be shorter and more relevant for any further investigation .

Niels

This looks really strange. Are you completely sure you have exactly the same user name and password combination which works for logging into your account at hyperion-entertainment.com? And do you have your copy of OS4.1 FE registered there? I.e. you can log in with those credentials and see you registration?
