Re: MPlayer 1.5 released!

@samo79

Probably a stupid question but,

Is this the Mplayer we all use with MickJTMplayer player?

Also, I find Mplayer better to use than DV player or Emotion on a lesser powerful system, I can squeeze 4 music videos to play at once, dv palyer barely gets 2 going, and emotion can do 3 safely, all were mpeg, but still, point was made.

Please keep supporting and updating / upgrading when you see a need for it with this beautiful program.

So that means all of us are now the old generation officially, thank you for reminding all of us how old we are getting, appreciate it. :D

lol

To my surprise it has come quiet far despite all the turmoil and what not within the community.

@geennaam

Any chance there is a RAIL adapter version that instead of having a tiny adapter at the end of that usb cable, it has the full length pcie?

Was just curious.

@Hypex

You know I was referring to modern gen Amiga systems right? lol

I mean, if I were to try another card, it would be a 7450, as that card requires the same power to run as the 5450

HOWEVER

According to geennamm, it doesnt have backward compatibility for 5v, meaning, despite me having ample PSU power, without an rail adapter, it still wont work.....

Alas, back to square 1, I either go back to a 9250, 9200, or grab the 460le, and use its pcie slot.....

Albeit having said that, I'd have to double check with the community here if the 460le would be able to run a r7 240 or whatever without an adapter with its pcie slot thats included, knowing my luck in Amiga land, nothing will be that simple.

@Hypex

:D

This isn't windoze Hypex, ofcourse it isn't included.....

They even only included an extremely basic Radeon HD Driver with Amiga os4.1FE release, what about all the people that may have already upgraded their cards and did not keep their 9250 or whatever???? lol

I could continue but I won't, as I really am a little hopeful that Amiga Os4.1fe is still under going development to see the light of perhaps Amiga OS4.2 or Amiga os 5.0, LOL

Call it being in dream land or la la land if you will, but the hopefulness is still there.

I'm even hopeful they've re-coded it all to be able to be on more accessible hardware for all of us that remain, I dont mind if it went ARM even, if this is an easier plausible action to complete.

Anyway, I suppose maybe thats why they released the first enhancer for free to allow users to atleast have a driver that could work with some of their more basic cards that werent 9250s?

@Hypex

Well, the r7 240 isn't a waste, as technically I might need this card in future for the old 440ep which James plans on giving back to me....(Oh crap, it means Ill also need to buy yet another adapter......lol)

I should have never given that or the spare flex board away it seems, as years later I have cool ideas, like having two Amigas set up and networking this way for fun

Yeah I know, easier to do on PC, but, not as fun watching my friends confused windoze brains trying to use the Amiga OS.... lol

Albeit having said that, anyone who's used a mac before will probably find it relatively quick and easy to understand and even possibly get annoyed at the OS for not auto arranging icons, for example, when opening up a drawer.

@joerg

Yes I had noticed that the 9250 did dragging the size of windows in Amiga os with fast speed versus the 5450, which I found bewildering before all this saga started with my forum post....

TBH even know its a bit bewildering with the answers received, only because Im living in 2024, not 1990...... lol

All good though, I still like the overall feel of the modern amiga os versus the classic in many ways, including the ease of use....

Installing something on the classic then trying to get it to work is 80% of the tie spent mucking around trying to get things to work, atleast fr Amiga os4.1fe, that percentage number has decreased significantly, but it's still there ofcourse...

Many ported games for example arent just a straight forward install.....

Im baffled why the community didnt continue with the idea that WARGUS put upon the community, a user may have an original CD, and there fore could physically install the copy....

Alas, I understand many of the users will also be like me and be carrying over the licensed copy from their steam, gog, epic, or whatever accounts on their pc's to their amigas to use their amigas with said games....

Anyhow, I digress, thanks for clearing up my own thought process regarding the GPU's and how I should go about looking for on in future should I need to. (I think I have enough of them now, so probably more time to get that adapter geennaam keeps telling me about)

@Hypex

I'm back....

So it seems I've missed a it again.

So looking at what you've written here, its basically not comparable due to how Amiga OS works with these cards versus any other modern operating system that actually has support basically.

Mmmmmm, might explain why when I bought and downloaded Ztools, the sys mon had its own bench marking system included....

is there a web site that shows comparisons to what Im getting with a card on a system compared to other users using the same card?

@Hypex

You're making me feel bad, I may have forgotten to mention that Geennaam has suggested for me to consider this as an option as it worked for him :

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Ex ... I1PEX1/dp/B0037ECAM2?th=1

My apologies if I had indeed forgotten to mention it, but while you were helping me I was technically helping Juzzoe with his laptop issue that day, which we resolved.

No the 500w power supply is ample, I had a 400w in there and that was a completely different story, since the 500w upgrade ( donated from another friend the PSU BTW, (Quadballz), anyhow, it gave more than ample power....

If the PSU would be the issue you wouldn't see anything in U boot to begin with AFAIk.

So, I haven't managed to get around purchasing this, among a sudden Onslaught of other things needed (more pressing) for the house hold.

Thank you for all of your help and everyone else's thus far.

The patience on the Amigans.net forums and discord far outweighs others from my experience when talking about Amiga OS4 and beyond.

It seems other forums are heavily against the idea of modern gen systems purely based on bias of expense alone (understandable in a way) but not understandable to make someone who bought a modern gen and totally make them feel they made a bad decision..

I think it is not so, Amiga OS4.1fe is an amazing operating system and far more use-able than any classic Operating system I've used, even the latest 3.2.2 still seems to be missing so much( that I'm going around the internet finding this and finding that to make things work)

At least In Amiga Os4.1fe its usually just a missing library and that's it, done, quick search and download and things work.

One thing is for sure, I am really also enjoying my classic machine with the classic 520, but again things could have been included, like Amiga Chat GPT, the person could have at least included the needed library ( aren't libraries free usually?)

I can understand why not to include the narrator.device, but most classic Amiga users will probably have the original copy of Amiga 1.3...

Anyhow I digress, back to the video GPU for SAM flex,
It'll work in a months time Im guessing when the next adapter arrives, at least so I am oping so for that cost....

@kishigo

So Ive had compositing working nicely since I got the 5450 ages ago, this was never an issue for me, so thank you for letting me know should I obtain a future sam system, I will know to make sure to keep my old 9250 card.

As for mini gl and other support, I think the R7 240 and the 7770 cards will support 3d and more, should I get them working.....

If not I will need to buy a different adapter to fit in the pci, but the RAIL adapter is perfect as both cards show up in uboot now.

Re: SAM Flex Stuttering Issue workbench or software use / games

@sailor

The stuttering is GONE since the advice of Geennaam as well as my luck infinding out the CPU load issue coming from a timing from the Limpid clock Program...

Initially I changed its priority to -4 and it kind of fixed it but it is best when Limpid clock doesnt even start when system boots....

ALSO OF NOTE :

When I tested my 9250, the dragging was perfect and fast and smooth, which makes no sense as the passmark videobench rates that card at 3, and the 5450 at around 136 or something, meaning the 5450 is supposed to be way better....

But I suppose in AMIGA LAND its the opposite,,,,,

Moving forward to drivers, I am definitely not using the original driver, haven't for a long time...

According to Hans NZ website, driver 2.2 would already be sufficient for the R7 240, alas I have a much higher version so I can not see the driver being the issue.

My friend came over and we will continue later, but for now we have noticed thanks to his Serial Link to his laptop, ( Yes he actually has certain things as he seems to find himself in many pickles with his xe1 or x1000 it seems) anyway, that Amiga OS does recognise it, but I may still for some reason be lacking power.

Which again geennam did mention that I may require yet another adapter to make it all work for Amiga Os to load into the OS, as despite seeing UBOOT, and the kickstart etc to its loading sequence, this is where it then stops with a black screen.

It seems Highly Likely that my current two adapters, the new RAIL Adapter is perfect, giving both cards more than ample power, R7 240 and the 7770 by gigabyte, but the Amiga OS fails potentially one cause is indeed as forementioned the translation between Amiga os and the adapter versus the cards in question.

Geenaam to be fair has been a great help and has been very kind even through my frustrations on Discord.

Magic and a few other nice people like early on Trixie also mentioned some things, skatman, all very kind Amigans like yourself, have helped and it's been a pleasure (and some pain, lol) during this process of elimination.

So, in the end I may need yet another adapter to change my current adapter that goes into the pci slot itself, but the RAIL adapter is more than ample according to geenaam who states he has done tests himself and not many were successful with the adapter I am using...... I think it was a :

PEX 8111, my one says made in japan, but either way, probably no real difference other than where it was made.

SO

In conclusion, the dragging of windows will automatically fix itself, as if a 9250 fixes that and more, I cant imagine a r7 240 or a 7770 not fixing it with amplitude...

9250 bench score 3
5450 bench score 136? but due to limited support in Amiga not a better card on the amiga
R7 240 by memory in the 900s, perhaps 906 in bench score
7770 had the nicest of my cards at 2000s something bench score

for exact figures, give me a moment :
https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/com ... -R7-240-vs-Radeon-HD-7770

Wowsers, Morph Os browser pretty awesome... Anyhow.

THank you for the help, and all the links, had a look and some interesting data.

My friend still wishes to try later and see if we can get it working, but if not, atleast I have a road map ahead of me somewhat laid out thanks to geenaam and a link.

@pjs

Here is something interesting, so, after a uboot update to the latest uboot for the system
Limpid clock was running even morer amapnt despite having been resolved with its priority,

I double checked sure enough priority didnt change, but cpu at 60% or more, sigh

All this because of a 240 or a 7770 attempt of an upgrade

Im back to using 5450, as even the 9250 wasnt crash hot with my 4k monitor, but the 5450 is fine and atleast boots into operating system.

ON THIS NOTE :

Has anyone made a list of issues between their cards?

5450, screen dragging ULTRA SHIT but composition nice, over all feel nice when using software, but mini GL not supported

9250 screen dragging perfect not slow, easy going, INTERESTING...

the 9250 scores a benchmark of 3 on passmark videobench, but the 5450 scores around 230, yet the 9250 in AMIGA world better??? WTF is going on here? LOL

Mini gl wont work for me when using 5450, is this actually so or has there been a fix since?

Atm Ive gone back to trying out my 9250, but my current 4k monitor doesnt like it and to say most people wouldnt use their amigas under these conditions is an understatement.

So why am I, I just miss some mini gl stuff, so might have to live with sometimes chucking in the 9250....

The 9250 however with a 1080 monitor, an older one that I have does work nicely, however my 12 core uses the 4k, so I was hoping to use the same monitor to simply monitor switch between systems at some point in future.

@sailor

Forgive me if I am a little confused but, what about the Creative Audigy FX SB1570, would this card be ok? (Acube systems site doesn't have any in stock though)

Also, any chance there happens to be a list of sound cards that are supported by Amiga os4.1fe naturally?

Or were any sound drivers that were ever made after market by the Amiga community?

I feel like I am running so far behind with information right now, due to not having been part of the on-line scene for some time since during Covid and some time after it was.....well....I am here now so.

Also just noticed, the 460le version doesnt come with sound onboard... Has three slots, I presume none of those slots are suitable for a nice GPU and one needs to get an adapter kit for it?

I also presume the reason sound blaster may have been an ideal option is due to the small slot at the bottom of the board, which leaves me wanting to ask.....

The white coloured slot, is that good enough for a wifi adapter or even an even older sound card? I mean it isnt too critical, as going that route if I do decide to go ahead with it, would mean in my case another Vonets unit, powered by the boards 7 usb ports, one is used there, another two from mouse and keyboard, leaving heaps of spares anyway.

Cheers and sorry to bother you again, but I feel comfortable asking you questions.

@ All

I am still unable to work out how to get my window dragging to speed.

Does everyone have the window dragging issue, or are there some that have smooth dragging?

A friend was telling me it could be to do with my current GPU that is installed in the system, which is a 5450, and that perhaps once the new adapter kit arrives and I get the chance to install R7 240 or the 7770 that this issue might take care of itself....

So who here has smooth window dragging and what GPU are you using?

Thanks again.
