CodeBench make clean
Just popping in

With my project Workbench Explorer, I have reached the maximum files (probably total text length) rm can handle deleting. It crashes.

See screen grab here:

Just do: rm -v #?.o

And what about using the Delete command from the OS instead?

The way CodeBench creates the makefile needs to be updated for large projects. I was just letting him know.

Delete, never heard of it.

Surely "rm" can delete files of any length? I don't believe that it has a limit, that is absurd. There must be some other cause for the crash.

If you check out the image at the link in his original post you'll see that the files are all being deleted on a single command line. Presumably, the line is longer than AmigaDOS, the console or rm can handle.

Are you probably using the lately updated coreutils?

What version of "rm" is that?

From the stacktrace it seems this is one of those crashes i've also witnessed with other updated coreutils [cut, cat and cp] (namely versions 54.3 and 54.4).

That error() crash i get here aswell, Henning is investigating.
He doesn't get a crashlog, instead AmigaForever is crashing for him.

You need to switch back to the old coreutils for now until this is resolved.

I guess that, given the frequency of this crash and amount of tools affected, this is a general problem of all tools.

And it's easy to check aswell.

Just give rm a nonexistent file in a shell, i.e. "rm thescaryclown" and it will crash with error()

So, i guess one of those files in that makefile list od yours rm is ought to delete is simply not there.
