@spotUP: Did we ever figure out, if LHA supports symlinks or if some alternative is the better one to use for os4depot uploads... ?? ;)

Doesn't look like it, appears to try to archive the target.

I think the most practical solution currently is to use LhA with only the "real" files in the archive, and include a script which makes the symlinks explicitly. The user must be told to run this after unpacking (unless there is an installer that does it).

Best regards,

Niels

Yes. I think I did something like that in the Qt install script. Otherwise one could use gzip'ed tar files, but for os4depot that feels a little awkward. I wonder if the lha standard could somehow be updated .

@spotUP

In your qcodeedit port, the main library file has 4 instances. About 6 MB download would be saved by deleting 3 of them and maybe use a script to establish the links. Just a suggestion. :)

Symlinks work if you type
lha a ram:test.lha usb-log()

you just need a pattern.

I wrote a shell utility for backing-up & restoring Amiga symlinks (and optionally other stuff like Amiga comments & protection bits), which might be quite useful in such a situation... although the version on my homepage is way out of date (I ought to release a new version that probably fixes some bugs).

That just resolves the link and archives it as a file. I think what people want is to read links into the archive and reproduce them when the archive is extracted.
