GPU Temp monitoring
Just popping in
Just popping in

See User information
Good day,

I was wondering if it could be possible to monitor the temperature of our Radeon cards through software rather than breaking out the multimeter temperature lead?

The reason I am wondering is that I've switched my loud stock cooler for the massive Thermaltake HR-03 GT silent cooler. The wrap around nature of the cooler allow me to finally use my PCI slot without a riser card. Although it seems to be performing well (it hasn't fried the card yet), I'd like to make sure it is keeping my 4850 cool.

Former setup
Motherboard: SAM460ex lite @1017 MHz with 1 GB DDR2 SODIMM
PCIe: Radeon HD4850 @625 MHz with 512 MB DDR3 @993 MHz
PCI: ARC1-152-C7 riser card
Riser: sil0680 card with 40 GB HD
OS: 4.1 Update 6

Linux,Debian Jessie,has a sensor viewer that shows the temperature of a Radeon graphics card on Sams. dont think that there is anything under AmigaOS 4.x . I am getting between 34C and 38C with a Radeon HD6670 .

Edit;
There is also a tool called psensor that works under Lubuntu .

GPU temperature sensing is not currently supported under AmigaOS.
Another option might be an automatic fan controller. Many have a small temp sensor to control the speed of each fan.
It's not as accurate as the internal temp sensor, but it's off-the shelf, and it has the additional feature of slowing your fans down when full speed is not needed.

I am interested in adding GPU temperature monitoring to X1kTemp docky when/if there was a way to access this information.

@abalaban

If not X1ktempdocky, perhaps Ranger would be a good program to monitor cpu/gpu/fan speeds? Of course ssolie would have to find free time to add such features.

I'd also like to see the power management features of these GPUs implemented.

This would have to b e supported by the RadeonHD driver first. If you just nned to make sure your cooler is working ok and not constantly monitor it then Linux is your friend for now .

The author of the Radeon drivers recently said in another forum:

"On AmigaOS the graphics card is set to max clock speeds + the voltages required to run at those speeds."

"While I would definitely like to add dynamic power management, they have made it very complicated to program. I don't see that happening any time soon."

Edit: I see Spectre660 beat me to it. :)

@thread

I decided to mount the HR-03 on my less heat intensive 4830 card. The 4850 is now for sale. I may even throw in the riser card if a SAM460 owner buys it.
