I see you did that as a fundraiser, that's a bit more generic than a specific bounty issue, but if it works for you guys, it's fine. Just one comment:

"it is risk for all Altivec owners,no guarantee of a speed advantage"

That's imprecise, a speed advantage will most likely be achieved, but it's unclear just how much.

Thank you for opening the bounty, what will hopefully allow feanor to work on that soon. But I think the description is very basic: there is no numbers to give a baseline, there is only one video given as reference, only one small mention to H264 (the initial discussion was specially about optimization of this codec), the title specifies OS4 but there is a word about MorphOS in the description (for me, this work is simply PowerPC related), ...
Goals description are "speed advantage" on hardware that feanor does not own. That will be difficult to see any speedup.

I think I can start now since the bounty is going surprising well, but just to avoid any wasted time, we're talking about mplayer1 (not mplayer2) and ffmpeg not libav, right? Though, it should be easy to contribute the code to both projects, I'd rather start with the needed project.

In the LiveForIt-Mplayer (mplayer1) we use the latest version of ffmpeg.

Thanks to those who have contributed to the bounty and to feanor for offering his valuable services.

And of course to Hans for rattling the chains on this one.

Slowly but surely our little OS is growing up.

Off-topic: With an AmigaOne XE what is the best graphics card to use? Can a Radeon HD card work in these machines? Would like to take advantage of all the new graphical goodness coming in OS4.1 FE.

@gregthecanuck,
the best one it's the Radeon 9000 pro AGP, for HD cards,
you can read here: http://hdrlab.org.nz/projects/amiga-o ... r-hardware-compatibility/
near the end of the page you can found info about the
NG motherboards, including fixed and unfixed XE's

I couldn't donate anything with Odyssey because nothing happens when clicking that "pay"/"purchase" (whatever was the text) button. Timberwolf couldn't even display the website at all. I didn't bother to try the older OWB. I'll have to wait to monday and use a Windows computer at work.

Perhaps try once more?

what you started is actually a fundraiser, which is not directly tied to a specific bounty, I've requested 805 EUR for 35 hours, VAT is not included for invoices within the EU (but would be included if for example invoicing a US company), however any extra cash you could keep for further bounties, even not related to the mplayer bounty, wherever you see fit.

I will start asap, and will post regular updates and the commit logs here.
