SAM 440 EP weirdness (USB related) - SOLVED

Hey guys, I have a SAM 440 EP, however, no matter what I do, I cannot get an external USB HD top show on WB. When I plug it in, you get a Mulitclass requester pop up - but then nothing shows up.

I have also tried an ATAPI/SATA to USB bridge device, which is also mains powered, but no matter what, I cannot get it to pop up on the USB!

Any ideas?

@Chris

I get a USB Mass Storages window

But nothing listed and everything ghosted out apart from Details.

If I click Details, I get a Mounter Window pop up, which is blank.

I think its a stupid power issue, if I plug the HD into the PC the LED in the case lights up, whereas in the SAM, it doesn't

Do I just give up? - Any ideas folks?

I have tried a powered USB/SATA bridge thing, basically an internal hard drive, powered and plugged in via a USB cable, but still the same result. :\

EDIT - SOLVED - I found an old 20GB powered external hard drive. That works, it seems the SAM 440 EP USB ports are just very weedy

I've had the same problem on my Sam 440ep with a USB external CD/DVD drive. It's one of those laptop-sized units, only half an inch thick. It used to work OK when plugged into the A1-XE, but not at all in either of the Sam 440s.

I eventually split the cable and connected it to +5V separately. It has worked flawlessly since then.

cheers

it seems to be a software problem, if you try the usb 1.1 driver instead of 2.0 it works.. I have the same problem when i try to use a D-Link Hub.. Now, as I need the 2.0 speed I connected the internal usb port in the main board to an esternal adapter and the peripherals work with an exception of the wheel mouse that doesn't work so I cannot use it to scroll pages..
