Unlike most of Amiga users here, I don't have peecees at home, my mainly computers are my X1000 and my trusty A1200 since 1994. I have spent thousands of euros for my Amiga stuff (either hardware or software) as many people did and I never regretted it, because I like it, and will continue to do so as much I want.

AmigaOS is both fun and action. If some Amiga users see the current situation as a hobby, then it's their problem. I'm quite happy and thankful of the support and improvement of the AmigaOS in general (including the classics).

Only for a developer, not for a user. Users want features.
But yes you are right, it's part of the fun.

If the userbase is declining, it is up to the individuals as to when they leave.

Not only users themselves but also all other actors in the community.
If everybody cares a lot to keep the fun going then it can work and stay alive.
If too much people think "it's just cool but I won't spend more time/money on sustaining it's development further", then it can't work in the long run.

we survived the darkest days... AND you say give up, GIVE UP !!!!!???????

I don't know the future but there may be more darkest days in front of us than behind. I just want to be realistic.
When you see the millions of games and apps there are in the "other world" you understand we'll have hard times staying alive, and alive means "more users".

True, definitely!

Those options are not a comparable, nor opposite options.

In life it's easy to stay inactive because we are all lazy at some point. So if everyone just have fun playing games or browsing websites ...etc, and not helping the platform to go forward then the community will shrink more and more everyday. Inactivity means that the gap between AmigaOS and mainstream systems will grow bigger and bigger and it won't be possible to attract new users.
As users will leave AmigaOS, the number of Amigans will decrease and reach zero.

So if the options are not strictly opposite, not doing "Action" will make "Play" less and less interesting, one day or another.

Dont worry Philippe. A-EON is working on several software projects right now and hoping to start a few more soon. We have the users firmly in mind and new software is the focus of A-EON.

I hope effort somewhere is being made to address the Printer situation to accompanying LibreOffice, it would be a real shame if users were able to create for example a MS Word Document but at the same time faced with being unable to print it off.

Exactly!

What we really need are more Dockies.. and a database to keep track of them.

My take:

Amiga is fun.

Serious fun.

And I am definitely counting on it still being just as much serious fun in about three and a half years when I retire and get more time for serious fun projects and contributions. Until then, I'll keep doing what I can on a smaller, daily scale.

Best regards,

Niels

Isn't receiving new OS enhancements, ports, native applications, etc., all part of the fun (for users)?

There are a few reasons why I stay with amiga, its the OS itself. Its not only nice to use its also learning curve.

Its not just the software side, its also the hardware. Every few months I find something new,but best of all if its something I done and it works flawless gives me such a good feelings inside I just want to learn something new.

OS4.1 alone is awsome. (Personal opinion)

Has anybody done a poll to see what kind of software people use? I hardly ever use a word processor. If there is such a poll I would like to look at it. It would be interesting to see what Amiga apps correspond to what people are using in the real world. Including those under development. People are always bad-mouthing Windows, but it is the Cadillac of operating systems. I just bought a Microsoft Surface and the touch-enabled Windows 8 is pretty impressive.

I work with pc/windows computers all day long at work so I don't want to see them at home.

Bad example. Here's one better:

Who has the biggest sales on cars? Hyundai? Toyota? Fiat? It's like windoze. How about Ferrari, Bugatti or Lamborghini? Yes, you guess right.
