Atheist, I don't care much about Windows. You can hate it all you want. There's something that I think we can all agree on: people that hate Windows shouldn't use it, because it makes them kind of cranky. So my feelings on this topic is it is meaningless and irrelevant because Amiga development will go on because it just will.

Have you tried it?

Oh yes, quite a few times. Never really worked for me: too much pink-glass reminiscing about "the good old Amiga days" and nothing really happening there. But I'm not against local events, don't get me wrong. I just don't feel motivated to visit them. It's a personal thing based on unhappy experience.

All I'm saying is that an annual event held at a convenient and accessible place, with OS owner / dev team / vendor presence, could become an effective part of the platform's life-saving mechanism.

Speaking of Amiga meetings: I'd personally never go to a local Amiga party to meet the four ageing geeks there; bigger meetings of the AmiWest kind (with Hyperion/OS dev team attendance and seminars/presentations) would be much more meaningful and worthwhile. I think we should strive for an annual European Amiga get-together held at a convenient location everyone can easily fly to (such as London, Paris or Rome). Not Bologna, sorry

LOL 'ageing geeks' eh, why are you still 16

personally, meeting a few friends with similar interests has always been a good experience.

I'm not, that's why I don't need meeting others to remind me of how old and useless I am

This old chestnut - for me this all boils down to the speed of development. If things were at a faster pace the community would respond more positively. I'd be able to post updates on social media much more often - I keep having to resist the temptation to post classic Amiga news which is counter productive.

The only definite news I can post about anytime soon is the release of AmiStore in July. *glances at own signature* That alone is small comfort given the current level of third party development is glacial.

Didn't hyperion try to recruit more devs? Wonder how that went. I think atleast salass00 was recruited. He has added good things.

This was just posted on aw.net by hyperionmp..

@amigadave

Just a tidbit: AmigaOS 4.1 now has a mechanism to use more than 4 GB of memory but can make good use of essentially all physical memory available (i.e. the limit imposed by the 32 bit limit was circumvented).

For the upcoming Cyrus this means that e.g. 16 GB of memory can be put to good use.

This is just one thing that comes to mind.

Thanks to Hans-Joerg Frieden for implementing this feature as a full-time independent contract for Hyperion Entertainment.

Why is news about activity in the 68k community "counter productive"?

Hi Antique,

You should read what he wrote after that!!!!

I am getting very excited now!

Support Amiga Fantasy cases!!!
How to program: 1. Start with lots and lots of 0's. 10. Add 1's, liberally.
"Details for OS 5 will be made public in the fourth quarter of 2007, ..." - Bill McEwen
Whoah!!! He spoke, a bit late.

A few reasons.

AmigaOS is written for PPC.
AmigaOS should not just be nostalgic.
There are many classic Amigs news channel already.
I prefer to promote current tech as much possible.
In order for AmigaOS to catch up it must be always looking forward - not backwards.
