A1-X1000: Linux Kernel 3.13

Hi All,

The RC 5 of kernel 3.13 doesn't boot. It hangs before starting CPU. There is a big bug present in the PowerPC CPU code of the kernel 3.13. All boards with PA6T are affected (Nemo board, Electra board etc.). Olof Johansson (software engineer from the former P.A. Semi company) helps us to find this bug. Olof is the developer of the PA6T source code in the Linux kernel. He cares about the PA6T code in the kernel. There are a bug report on the bug tracker at kernel.org (Link: Bug 67811 - Kernel 3.13-rc5 doesn't boot with a PA6T cpu). Olof has a lot of P.A. Semi systems with PA6T cpu. I hope he can solve the problem.

Rgds,
Christian

Hi All,

Olof has solved the problem. I've compilied the RC 6 of kernel 3.13 with Olof's fixes. You could test the RC 6 if you like.

Download: vmlinux-3.13-rc6-AmigaOneX1000.tar.bz2

Note: The Radeon Dynamic Power Management doesn't work. You have to add the argument and the value "radeon.dpm=0" to the bootargs. For example:

Quote:
setenv bootargs "root=/dev/sda4 radeon.dpm=0"

Christian

Christian, thanks for all the good work and SAM460ex support.

I need to prepare SAM460ex partitions for Linux, MOS and AmigaOS. What do you advise? Panthelope or two HDDs?

I will use SSD for system and hard drive for data. Single partition that all can access for data would be best, but that is only FAT16 or FAT32 can be used?

Any advices how to try Fedora 20 or anything XFCE/LXDE/MATE PPC32 on SAM460ex?

DJ Nick will bother you in future about Linux on X1000, he is a real Linux newbie, unlike me.

But I enjoyed your best efforts to bring as many Linuxes to X1000 and PPC back.

Please buggzila SAM460ex, SAM440, old AmigaOnes and Pegs too so we get all the support from few official PPC32/64 distros and leverage your work.

Also if Flash exists for Linux x64, could we pressure (MOS users, AmigaOS users) Adobe to do at least PPC32 version? Yes, HTML5 and Web 2.0 will win, but in time.

Nice, but you get such offers by Murphys laws (as well as Nemo board alone) once you already enter debt and get in conflict with seller and support teams

Sorry, Spectre660 has done a lot of for Linux on Sams. I'm in the A-EON Core Linux Support Team. I develop and support Linux on A-EON systems.

Could you ask Spectre660 in the Hyperion forum?

I'm sorry, this is to much for me. I work for A-EON and help a bit Spectre660 to host his kernels and distributions.
You could buy a Peg or an old AmigaOne and send these to Spectre660. I think If he have a Peg and an old AmigaOne, then he will build kernels for these computers too.

Christian

Hi All,

I'm proud to announce the release of the Linux Kernel version 3.13.0 for the AmigaOne X1000.

New: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=search&q=Linux+3.13

Note: The Radeon Dynamic Power Management doesn't work. You have to add the argument and the value "radeon.dpm=0" to the bootargs. For example:

setenv bootargs "root=/dev/sda4 radeon.dpm=0"

Download: vmlinux-3.13.0-AmigaOneX1000.tar.bz2

For development only:

Ben has not solved the boot problems. I had to add Olof's patches to the Nemo patch file.

Have a lot of fun with the new kernel.

- Christian
