TVPaint is very good program, but I'm afraid I'm not very good at using it.

Thanks. I set it up just as you did with ImageFX and Screens and now that one is at 1920x1080 just like I want. Interesting that within ImageFX's config settings the max resolution offered is 1600x1200, just like with TVPant. The Screens settings don't seem to override the TVPaint screen for me, however.

Everything is good to go on my Sam system in regards to TVPaint. When the program starts, I am presented with a screen mode requester that tops out at 1600 x 1200. I'm using the Screens preferences to promote that to 1920 x 1080, which works.

Only weird thing is if I ever do want a 1600 x 1200 screen, I guess I'll have to unpromote that mode. Doesn't seem likely, however. HD video resolution images will be my main use for the program.

Thanks, everyone, for your assistance -- especially ChrisH.

Ok, here TVPaint works fine but yesterday i discovered a problem (and maybe is a known problem..) and i wasn't able to fix it..

If i try to use the text option (the A icon on the toolbar) it opens a box with all fonts available. My problem is that when it opens the box, it also opens another box with an error message:"Bad Fonts Drawer". So i tried to change it using the "New dir" options but everytime i try to change it i get the error: "No Fonts".. That's strange as i have my hd full of TruTypeFonts.. any ideas??

Thanks

Took me a couple of days to get around to clicking on that "A," but yeah, I've got the same problem. I see a tvpaint.ini file with configuration information, including a whole section pertaining to fonts/text.

What should it say? Here's mine...

It's using the OS3 Compugraphics fonts. I have them installed on my system for another program and the fonts in TVPaint also seem to work. You can try copying the " _bullet " and " _bullet_outlines " directories from SYS:Emulation/AmigaDisks/Workbench3.1/Fonts/ to SYS:Fonts. Do not drag and drop those directories directly since Workbench will move them (not copy) and possibly cripple your emulation. Either copy them with the AmigaDOS copy command, Dopus4 filemanager or drag them from your system partition to RAM: and then from RAM: to SYS:Fonts. You should probably reboot before trying TVPaint after the copying. If that doesn't work you can try getting those directories from a real OS3 Workbench disk.

I think you'd be better off using PPaint, ImageFX, SketchBlock or some other more modern paint program. TVPaint has some quirks. For example, if you use Amiga-M or Amiga-N key combination to move to another screen and then return to the TVPaint screen then clicking on stuff no longer works.

Thanks Xenic, that did it.
Interesting, I don't get the Amiga-M issue that you describe.

I'm not sure if you mean you don't have the problem with switching screens or don't know what Amiga-M is. I should have said Left Amiga-M. Amiga has always had the keyboard shortcuts to switch screens. Pressing the left Amiga key and the letter M simultaneously takes you to the next screen. Pressing the left Amiga key and the letter N takes you to the Workbench screen.

TVPaint has so screen depth gadget, so the only way to get back to another screen is to use those system shortcuts. On my X1000, when I switch screens and then return to the TVPaint screen most buttons don't work right.

Oh how very system compliant! Gives me the shivers just to imagine what other "custom programming solutions" were used under the hood. No wonder it dies under OS4.

Yes it does, it's the down arrow in the main tool window titlebar...

[Close][TvPaint title][Workbench to front][Window depth]

Use that and your fine. If you forget just click anywhere (first click is eaten) then everything will work again.

The biggest problem I have with TV paint is finding that tiny mouse pointer on the grey background when using modern screen sizes. to get round that I use Markmouse ( http://aminet.net/package/util/cdity/MarkMouse ).

LOL I know what LAmiga M/N do. ;)

When I use them on my x1000 to switch screens I do not get the issue that you described.
Good to know about the TVPaint depth buttons too.

If I use the depth gadget that severin described I don't have the problem with switching screens. The problem when using L-Amiga-M could just be a problem with my setup. I never really used TVPaint after I bought ImageFX.

I use TVPaint for painting and ImageFX for erm... image effects... For scaling, cropping, merging etc. I prefer ADPro as ImageFX isn't as accurate because you're always working on a scaled image. Pity I can't use ADPro because Dopus5 has broken it :(

TVPaint as far as I know is the only 24bit paint program that allows you to edit a single pixel. PerfectPaint might but personally I don't like the GUI.

My favourite 68k era art programs are (in no particular order):

TVPaint
PPaint
Brilliance II
ADPro
ImageFX
Photogenics
FXPaint
ArtEffect4
