Paragraph formatting in Abiword.
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

See User information
I do routinely create .rtf documents under Wordworth, then spellcheck and finalise them as .doc documents under Abiword.

Under Wordworth, you can format a paragraph to have this effect;

A Start of paragraph ................................................
continues here ....................................................
and more.

by having a given left indent and the same but negative indent for the first line.
Abiword renders the paragraph correctly but as soon as you edit the paragraph the effect is lost.

Selecting the paragraph under Abiword to see how Abiword recognises (and defines) this formatting does not give a clue.
There is a possibility to give the same kind of indents, but it seems Abiword does interpret negative values for first line as zero.

Is this intended behavior ?

Is there an Abi formatting possibility, giving the same effect, that i overlook?

Could you post a screenshot showing your problem? I do not really understand your description.

Sorry : i di not notice that the formatting of my paragraph was not rendered
You can find the paragraph as rendered by Wordworth here:

and Wordworths paragraph formatting settings here:

retrait = indent ;
gauche = left
première ligne = first line.: As you can observe a negative value is entered here

That is a hanging indentation. To do that in Abiword you have to open the Paragraph options. There you'll find a "Special:" tag and below it you can select "Hanging" from the list and set the space under the "By:" tag.

Edit:
Here is a screenshot from Abiword 2.9.2 for Linux. Hope it is the same for your version.
