Er... no, but it's sensible to have a "user" archive and a "developer" archive, especially for something so big.

The "user" archive should be a nice LhA file with an install script.

The "developer" archive... well, who cares? As long as the files are there and there's some form of instructions how to install it, developers will work it out.

Nice with and update and just in time. I decided today that it was time to install QT on my "new" amigang since i had problems displaying a pdf file with amipdf and wanted to test it with qpdf. It worked great so thanks!

I will have to re-test all the applications i rejected in the past due to slowness or too long loading times on my old machine.

Hardly. But I think most people don't have much time to spend using their Amiga. And my mental model of the "average Amiga user" (NOT the kind of person who posts on forums!) is someone who finds the Amiga (any flavour) a bit strange & maybe even a bit harder to use (than the Windows/Mac they use most of the time), so they'll have even less actual time for doing Amiga stuff (due to having to work-out or read-up on what to do).

And well, it just seems a bit strange to me, asking a user to download a 0.5GB archive & install 1GB of files (on an Amiga!), when they only need 20% of that.

Anyway, I don't want to get into some protracted argument about this, so this is my last comment on the subject. I was just adding my vote to Kas1e's suggestion, in the hopes Alfkil might consider it.

The new version seems to be working nicely, however I have a couple of menu-related glitches:
1. With the Qt-style menus, opening a menu is deactivating the program window, which is resulting in some horrible flickering/confusion.
2. Native menus are broken:
a) Multiple items are being assigned the same keyboard shortcut. ('m testing with qpdfview here)
b) OS4 is freezing on exit with them enabled. (might be related to (a))
c) They probably need re-writing to use menuclass to allow unlimited depth.

Hmm, I didn't test those. I think this problem must have always been there, since I have changed nothing in that part of the code for the new release. At the moment it is a little too much work for me to dive into. I would rather concentrate on something like getting phonon up and running, so we could have video apps. Or have a new go at Qt5.

EDIT: The problem with window focus has a reason. I remember working with it for a long time and eventually giving up fixing it due to some constraints in the system. Vaguely it appears to me to have been a problem with getting mouse positions in a non-focus-stealing windows. I don't know if anything has changed in the system since then allowing for a solution to the problem. Only I remember Timberwolf to have had some of the same issues.

A small menu drawing issue is that while hover menu items, the right side line of the menu is cleared.

The piture shows that from undo to lower case the menuitems are hovered.

Yes, I noticed this. I wonder if WA_ToolBox could be used to solve this??

I don't remember the focus-stealing in the old version. Certainly the native menus were buggy though.

After having updated to the new version, I had to configure again my prefs (native menus was not checked anymore).

The Qt readme file says not to activate native menus. However Chris reported a problem with Qt menus.

The Qt installer adds some commands to the user-startup that can cause problems. The Installer added this to my user-startup:

;BEGIN Qt-4.7
assign Qt: "Work:Qt-4.7"
path Qt:bin ADD
assign sobjs: sys:sobjs
assign sobjs: Qt:lib ADD
;END Qt-4.7

I already have some additional directories "assign added" to SOBJS: before the Qt commands are executed. The Qt command "assign sobjs: sys:sobjs" cancels my added sobjs: assignments which causes other things to fail when using my system. The Qt user-startup lines should be something like this:

;BEGIN Qt-4.7
if exists "Work:Qt-4.7/qt"
Assign Qt: "Work:Qt-4.7/qt"
path Qt:bin ADD
Assign SOBJS: Qt:lib ADD
endif
;END Qt-4.7

Probably also that "Work" hardcoding also should be replaced somehow (as not everyone have partition called Work)

I thought the phrase "something like" would make that point but no harm in clarifying. Since the installer adds the specific path for the Qt commands in the user-startup, providing any specific path in the example would be wrong unless it's explained; which you've just done.

@alfkil

When i open an "ASL" requester i always got this debug output message

Quote:
QFileInfo::absolutePath: Constructed with empty filename

I noted it in SMTube but probably it's the same all around ...

But also we have similar debugs message also in other program .. for example in the Qt web browsers but now also when we quit SMTube .. would be good if you can remove those annoying outputs for the next Qt update

Are Amigans children ?

Of course it's a huge archive. But you only have ton install it ONCE. And then you dont't have to touch it (except in there in an update 2 or 3 years later).

What is "childish" about complaining about unnecessarily large files.

I have never used QT nor anything that uses it because with only a 512kbps connection it would take forever to download it. If the archive could be split in to user and dev sections then it SHOULD be. It is unreasonable to ask people to download huge files when they may only need a small fraction.

If there was just a smaller user archive I might be able to try out QT, as it stands there is no chance.

I am stuck with 512kbps and do not have any choice for a faster connection so huge files are a real pain.
