The "no time" syndrome caught it and it had to be replaced by a fixed (goold old) Installer.

No. This installer was made for installing the SDK.
There's no decision to use it for other softwares too.

but is this still scheduled? bb1 for example?

the sdk installer looks nice but i don't think it is in a state to replace the current one.
installerng has been in development for a long time - thought it just has to be "polished up" to be useable. isn't it a third party product? or has the os4 team taken over development of it?

I've never understood the need to replace Installer with... a clone of Installer.

Source code is available, it is already PPC native and it is fully compatible with the old version (well, except the v45 extensions).

Either replace it properly (ie. with something that is actually an improvement), or add to the existing codebase.

I've not seen any advantage to InstallerNG, and in fact every time I tried it out it was never compatible with whatever installation script I was trying to run.

I'm not sure the SDK installer is necessarily an improvement either. From a user perspecitive, maybe, but give me Installer's LISPish code over XML any day.

Chris
