E-UAE on OS4

Please excuse my ignorance, but is there an idiot's guide to setting up and installing E-UAE on OS4.

It is something I have not done, and it seems as if everybody else has, so i thought I would give it a try.

I want to try out the old programs I have installed on my A1200 on the A1, and if they won't run under the 68k emulation or petunia, maybe they will run under E-UAE.

Anyway, before I started 'playing' as the wife would say , I thought it best to set it up first.

No such thing as a guide that I've scene.

However, A lot of people forget they got a complete, albeit customised, 3.1 Magic bundle on their XE Earlybird CD's.
I know you did

If you still have it find the debian boot disc, there is directory called UAE.

The file you are after is amiga_hd.tar.gz

You can unpack it with unarc and it will generate amiga_hd.tar

Unpack that to a temp place on your HD.

Make a directory called UAE

Goto where you unpacked the amiga_hd files and drag over
kick31.rom
workbench<dir>
work<dir>

to you UAE directory.

grab sdl UAE from richard drummonds site and unpack that to UAE. Now you should have

UAE
\
kick.rom
workbench<dir>
work<dir>
uae-sdl
.uaerc

Make an assign UAE to your UAE directory

Edit your .uaerc config to look like this
kickstart_rom_file=UAE:kick31.rom

joyport0=mouse
joyport1=joy0

floppy0type=0
floppy1type=0

chipset=aga

#fastmem_size=8
show_leds=true

chipmem_size=4
cpu_speed=max
cpu_type=68020
cpu_compatible=no
cpu_24bit_addressing=no
gfxcard_size=32
z3mem_size=128

filesystem2=rw,DH0:Workbench:UAE:workbench,1
filesystem2=rw,DH1:Work:UAE:work,0
scsi=true

gfx_fullscreen_amiga=yes
amiga.screen_type=custom
gfx_width_windowed=800
gfx_height_windowed=600
#gfx_lores=true
#gfx_linemode=none
#gfx_center_horizontal=true
#gfx_center_vertical=true

once you have it running you can install picasso96, select the UAE monitor driver, then you can use a virtual graphics card too.

If you want to play some games then create a 400x300 screen either using your monitor tooltypes or p96mode if you are using a picasso96setting file.

Then a basic 1200 might be something like this you'll need to edit configs to suit your self and where you store rom images, adf files on your hd.

#A1200
kickstart_key_file=UAE:rom/rom.key
kickstart_rom_file=UAE:rom/amiga-os-300.rom

amiga.floppy_path=UAE:games-adf/

floppy0type=0
floppy1type=0
floppy2type=0
floppy3type=0

joyport0=mouse
joyport1=joy0

cpu_type=68020
chipset=aga
cpu_speed=max
cpu_compatible=no
cpu_24bit_addressing=no
show_leds=true
chipmem_size=4
fastmem_size=0

amiga.screen_type=custom
gfx_width_windowed=400
gfx_height_windowed=300
gfx_lores=true
gfx_linemode=none
gfx_center_horizontal=true
gfx_center_vertical=true

some useful keyboard shortcuts

ctrl alt f1 is used to insert a disk in df0: (adf-file)
ctrl alt f2 is used to insert a disk in df1: (adf-file)
< use f3 and f4 for df2 and df3>
ctrl alt s is to switch between window and fullscreen
ctrl alt g grabs the mouse pointer to the window

There is a couple of programs called transdisk and transrom which are used to copy the rom from a real amiga to a file and to turn disk into adf files.

transdisk >ram:disk.adf -d trackdisk 0 -s 0 -e 79

will copy the disk in df0: to ram:disk.adf

A500, CD32 emulation requires the extended / older rom images.
They are part of Amiga Forever, but with these rom images and a USB joypad like the Gravis Eliminator you can play CD32 titles. That will mean replacing amigainput from update4. Pro and cons of that can be discussed in another thread.

If you need a CD32 config let me now i have one here.

You could also put your A1200 HD in your A1 if it is using a compatible filesystem EG: FFS. You would have to edit the partitions on the classic first, eg: change to non bootable and logical volume names to some thing like A1200DH0 and A1200DH1 so they dont clash with the A1. Remove anything weird like cybergraphics which is not supported by UAE and create a UAE config like above to point at A1200HD0 and A1200DH1 like above.
