ive been trying FPSE out and the plugin/gpuw3d.dll is way slow here the plugin/gpupete.dll runs fine
surely the 3d version is suposed to be using the GFX card
is this correct ?
and is there a later version than 0.09 os4 version ?
also gui version 1.01

Amiga is the heart and soul of computing nothing else comes close

The Warp3D plugin in FPSE uses the graphics card, but if there are too many textures and not enough memory on the graphic card for all of them, it uses the RAM from the mainboard, which slows noticeable the framerate. For example when I play TOCA 2 with Warp3D plugin, in the Qualifications the frame rate is faster than in the GPUPete Plugin, but during the race when there are all the cars it's much slower. When I overdrive the other cars, the framerate is back to normal.

Here is a thread that discussed this problem before:

Discussion on AW

This is what Amidog said about that:

"However, the main reason for slow performance is due to some games constantly updating their textures. I tried to fix this by only uploading the modified parts of the textures, but as it turned out, the W3D fuction to update a part of a texture actually always makes a full update. Maybe I could work around that by directly poking in the texture in VRAM (and handle all colorspace conversion myself), something I haven't tried yet."

Has Amidog made any comments on an upcoming version which
will use overlay...i remember he said that back then when
OS4 final wasn't released, that it will come...
(I can't use overlay myself - Radeon9800 here - but it
would be nice to see an update which - maybe - takes
advantage of the new features of OS4final)

otoh, i can't seem to reach the original authors page of
FPSE...maybe i'm looking in the wrong corner?
(Not Amidog, but LDCHen)

FPSE link i now, but it's dead
Anybody got a working link?

He is working on a handheld version.

I hope this will not hold back the new OS4 versions.

Amidog is working on that handheld version...or did you mean
the original author?

Certainly I mentioned the original author, LDChen.

I don't know what Amidog is doing at this time, but I hope he will tell us here
