New 32-Bit Pointer on OS4Depot (Update 0.2)
Just popping in

See User information
I was going to upload these tomorrow, but managed to get enough done tonight. They're currently in the upload queue at OS4Depot, I'll update a link here when the archive gets on.

This image will tell you half of the story, 3 different sizes for different resolutions & personal tastes & they come either with or without a subtle shadow. The other half you will get when you actually use them

Resized Image

Oh, BTW, the archive is called reddypointer.lha

Hope you like em, FuZion.

Kewl pointers. They look kinda familiar. From where did you rip 'em?

Only joking, hehe...

Ah, I actually remember downloading one of those from Aminet years ago. It looked exactly the same. I only doubt it was in 32bit and for OS4.

Well, maybe I'm the only one but I don't see any reason to have 32 bits pointers. :-/
Maybe I'll change my mind when I'll see a wonderful pointer.

Hey, 32bit pointers rock, these for example are semi see through and have a nice shadow on them.

They use proper alpha shades rather than the old dithering trick used in some A1200 pointers.

FuZion,

Nice work.

Cheers,
Bean.

Neither did I at first, but there are advantages by using the format even if you still only use a few colours.

If using the normal pointer prefs you create a pointer that uses a different set of the four colours to the default, then applications that use teir own pointer imagery can look weird. I was using a pointer prefs that was fine but in IB2.4 the hand looked dreadful and I could hardly see it.

Converting the same pointer and busy pointer into png def_icons means that the pointer images are now read from files in sys:envarc and over-ride your pointer prefs. So you can leave the old pointer prefs as the default but still have a nice looking pointer for general use. Applications that use their own pointer imagery look right as they have the default 4 colour palette, and not that of your new pointer.

With the new format you can play around adding shadows etc.

Another advantage is that the busy pointer and normal popinter are separate files. So if you like someone's busy pointer but hate the normal one, you can mix and match them with someone elses

What about Alpha blending? I think that is a perfectly good reason for a 32 bit pointer.

Seriously, if you do want to contact me write me a mail. You're more likely to get a reply then.

The pointer is out the upload queue now, get em here:

I've created this pointer to be less of a step away from what people are used to. Try it, you might like it.

Sweet, reminds me of the Mac OS pointer. I'd forgot about the other pointer states too.

Nice one Mason.

I've just uploaded updated pointers with new colours for the busy pointer to closer match the originals. NOT sure how long these things take to update but keep an eye on OS4Depot.

The image on the first post of this thread has been updated to show the new ones.
