Regarding 1080p playback, this doesn't mean anything. . You can play a 1080p MPG file i suppose but I highly doubt you'll be able to decode a 1080p h264 file that easy (I hope to be proved wrong of course ).

"This doesn't mean anything?" Seriously?

Sure, you'll be able to find videos that are too much for a single-core. However, don't assume that all 1080p H.264 videos won't play. It depends on the encoder settings used (e.g., H.264 profile).

For the record, I have a 1080p DIVX (so an MPEG-4 variant) that plays on my machine with ~50% CPU load, and that can go down further with a higher-end graphics card (30-40% reported). No, it's not H.264, but it *is* DIVX (MPEG-4), and my machine *could* decode two such streams simultaneously. That's two 1080p videos decoded simultaneously, in real-time. I don't think that this is something to sneeze at.

Still think that "this doesn't mean anything?"

And will this also benefit to Radeon 92xx systems (enhanced speed for example) ?

Composited video is only implemented on Radeon HD cards, so no. However, Radeon 92xx has overlay which, while old, still helps.

@all

Let's not forget that more was announced/demonstrated than only improved video playback. I'm sure that we're still missing a few items.

Still, the updated graphics driver is the one that could be easily "seen" by users, that's maybe why it's so popular

Another update to workbench/inuiton was, iirc, that the menus can now have little icons beside their entries.
Like, if you choose a preferences program from the pull-down menu it will be accompanied by it's icon.

By the way, what has happened to the two graphics guys (Imagodespira and his pal) who became members of the OS4 dev team some time ago? Does anybody know what they've been working on?

One new feature that was not mentioned was that 4.1 FE will include updated picture datatypes with native format write support (TIFF, GIF, JPEG, PNG and BMP).

This means that I will finally be able to release my DTConvert program:

All this sounds something good to wait for :) Radeon, New shell, octamed, mplayer, picture datatype etc :)

Who is doing the port on octamed and which version will be ported, the lastest 2.1 from the pc world. I read it has problems with midi part, out of sync and slow etc. I would like to have some words with the porter for some questions.

That's been there forever. Well, in Intuition it was broken for most of that time but still...

I think you're talking about ContextMenus, which uses popupmenu.class, which has always had the icon possibility.

Icons in ContextMenus is new though.

I don't mean to spoil the music party but I'm rather sceptical about Octamed. Ray (the owner) has been desperate to license/sell the code for many many years, so no wonder A-EON was able to get a deal here. But porting and updating the latest (= about 15 years old) Amiga code full of asm and bad coding practice will be hell - and several people have already failed at that. Of course I wish them the best of luck, I just have my doubts.

The 4.1 FE also includes an updated filesysbox.library (V53.38) and the latest diskio.library (V53.14) both of which will be necessary for any future FUSE based filesystems that may get released.

One of the more interesting ones that is being worked on is IMO exFATFileSystem which basically just needs some more testing before it can be released (there is a small issue that I need to be sure that has been fixed first):
Resized Image

The main advantages of exFAT over NTFS3G being much better speed and that file names are case insensitive.

many thanks to all involved! awesome news indeed combining all hardware platforms into one FINAL update for OS4.1

Few Questions:

1- do X1000 owners have to pay for this update & then get OS4.2 for free ?

2- full 3D for our Radeon HD cards will have to wait for 4.2?

I am also curious about Octamed having MIDI support.

The FinalEdition release also includes a complete software synthesizer, which opens musical programs like Bars&Pipes and Score up to everyone. It should also work with ScummVM for music playback in those games that support it.

I have asked A-EON if they could put me in touch with the coder porting Octamed so I can offer help with the CAMD link if necessary.

That reminds me, i've seen the logo of Score in the Radiance package, but never heard it being mentioned...was that an oversight by me?

Will Score be part of Radiance or a stand-alone program?

Thank you for the Xorro development, awesome

i mentioned both the updated datatypes with write support and the updates to filesysbox and your new filesystems during my presentation on final edition sunday morning. i'm not sure if that was streamed or not, though.

@LyleHaze

i also mentioned better MIDI support out of the box, including camd.library and TIMI included on the CD.
