i tried to install the Windows Gold edition today, without luck... neither unsheild (my old port) nor cab extractor would do it and the whole directory set is diffrent to what was explained on FriedenHQ.

let me know if u need some cdrom content lists or whatever.

cheers

Yeah, please send me a directory listing of the CDRom content. Does uncab list the content of the archives? If yes, send me that too, I might then be able to write an installation script.

I have the datafiles from JA2 Gold Pack unpacked to a directory, and I have unpacked the OS4 binary into same directory. Now, when I try to launch the game either from icon or from shell, the game won't start. The same happens in both Window and Full Screen mode. I can see the game trying to open a screen/window but failing and returning to OS4. No error messages or GR's appear.

Am I missing some .so file or is there something else blocking the game?

Here's listing of my 'SOBJ:' directory:

If it were one of the so files then ELF.library would complain. I suspect there might be an installation problem.

Make sure that the directory where you have the "ja2" binary and the "ja2.ini" file also contains a directory called "Data" with all the data files.

If that is the case, try running Snoopy to see what it is missing.

I bought the Windows version but installed the Linux one (that I downloaded from torrent since the Linux version is unavailable in any shop I looked around).

The Linux version works flawlessly here. I don't have much money right now but when I have some cash, I'll gladly give some money to you (and many others I have thought of from a long time ).

Anyway, would a french port be fastidious or can it be realized without too much trouble?

Hm, I must have misunderstood the installation instructions then - in the 'ReadMeFirst' file that comes with the OS4 binary there is a line (I quote):

"...your Jagged Alliance 2 directory should not contain a directory called "Data"."

Maybe the 'not' should actually be 'now'?

AW, I created the 'Data' directory, moved the data files into it and now the game starts properly. Many thanks for your help and for the OS4 version of the game
