Getting a CSPPC ready for OS4...!
Quite a regular

See User information
Hi everybody,

As well as my trusty A1, I want to get my CSPPC powered A4000 running AOS 4.0.

One of the fins on my PPC fan broke off a while ago, though, and I'm not sure it's terribly adequate for running a complete OS anyway. What do people suggest to replace the PPC fan with? Preferably something not too noisy. I imagine because it's a surface mounted chip I'll need to use thermal paste glue rather than the normal paste.

What have other people done? My CSPPC is too valuable not to be sure it's safe!

Thanks!

(Edit: Oops - wrong OS4 forum - replace this is the Hardware AmigaOS 4.0 forum if you like - though it's probably the same people reading it anyway. :) )

You can remove the fan without the heat sink. No need for glue or thermal paste. Just four screws.

You should replace the fan ASAP. The PPC runs hot (and dies) even if it has nothing to do.

Bye,
Thomas

So if I replace it with another similar fan it'll be sufficient cooling? The fan just seems rather small is all...

Better replace the fan with a 12V one, the original 5V fan was crap and almost killed my CS PPC if I hadn't acted in time
Also replace the cooling paste with new fresh, high quality paste

Like Thomas say..they run hot as hell and needs a good cooling fan with the original heatsink

Do you have a particular model that you know works? Or anyone else? I want to be sure it'll fit and not damage anything....

I presume if I need a 12V fan then I need one which uses a standard Molex connector? The 3-pin CSPPC header is presumably 5V only...?
