This is probably the greatest interview in the Amiga scene i have seen up to date, and it brought me wonderful tears in my eyes!
I want to personally thank everybody behind these great events in Amiga scene nowadays working heavily on bringing the Amiga back to where it belongs! Thank you so much, and you are very cool in that interview, Mr.Dickinson! |

Was a great interview. Did anyone see the picture of aos4 running? Said running update 1 on 64bit cpu with X1650gfx card. |

Re: Interview with Trevor Dickinson
Indeed Kicko, as Open Office and Firefox for the Amiga are very much needed, and i can only hope that MED SoundStudio for Amiga will rise from the ashes again ;) Sometimes, death can be brought back to life. Why? Because that might be destiny..

Re: Interview with Trevor Dickinson
yes, touching, but...
are we going to discuss the real chances of this project? I do not see clear about the software distribution, what do the user will get for 1600 euros in term of SW? also.... be honest... this case is very very old style... I'm not so confident so far.... |

Re: Interview with Trevor Dickinson
"Real chances"... Well I'm confident that AEON delivers the promised HW.
In terms of software I _guess_ what you will get is the newest incarnation of AmigaOS along with ported software like Firefox and Open office (if the ports are ready in time as more than alpha versions). I also suspect that you will get free updates for AmigaOS until the X1000 is 100% supported. The case is IMHO VERY nice apart from the X1000 logo, it's really simple and stylish imho. Less is more! |

Re: Interview with Trevor Dickinson
@vprette
Quote: yes, touching, but... The impression that I get is that it will be sold complete with OS. The only extra that you'll need will be a monitor. In terms of application software, everything on os4depot will be available, and it will come with a special edition of DvPlayer, and a browser (if not Timberwolf, OWB should be on it). How about you say what you think that the "real chances" are of this project. One thing is for certain, it is progressing nicely, and it generated quite a buzz when it was first announced. Quote: also.... be honest... this case is very very old style... To be honest, I don't think that the case is old style at all. I like it, particularly the attention to making the internals of the case easy to service. For me, a "very very old style" case, is beige in colour, noisy, requires a lot of effort to even swap the RAM modules, sucks in dust like a vacuum cleaner, and has sharp edges on the inside because the manufacturer couldn't be bothered to file the cut edges properly. Re: Interview with Trevor Dickinson
I totally disagree
the case is very big, very old, not appealing... I may like the ball on the front side.... but it was quite a time I didn't see such a bit case around when every vendor is going for little sizes. Aren't those sharp edges I see in the picture? Also, I don't mean x1000 launch to be under discussion.. I speak about SW No way that Open Office woul be ready for launch I doubt also about firefox.. guys in belgium are doing a nice job... but huge support in SW development apart OS4 is needed asap in my opinion |

Re: Interview with Trevor Dickinson
@Vprette
I agree we need much more software for OS4. Seems OO4Kids development has just started so that won't be ready for the near future. Regarding the tower it is big but seems to be good quality. The x1000 is going to be a big box Amiga in the style of A4000T so I can't see anything wrong with that. AFAIK the tower has been available since November 2009 so I wouldn't call it old in any way. Neither is the design looking old IMHO. It's typical Scandinavian minimalistic style with an Amiga touch (front door) added. Cool IMO. No sharp edges!! All about the tower here, incl. links to many reviews. http://www.fractal-design.com/?view=product&category=2&prod=32 |

Re: Interview with Trevor Dickinson
@vprette
Quote: I totally disagree It looks like a pretty standard sized case to me. It's hard to get a true sense of size from the pictures. And no, those aren't sharp edges. Plus, I was talking about edges so sharp that they cut your fingers; the kind that results from metal being cut, and not filed. Quote: Also, I don't mean x1000 launch to be under discussion.. I speak about SW I agree that Open Office is unlikely to be ready, but I'm expecting firefox to be released in time, or at least close to the X1000 launch. There is software being developed for OS 4, but that software won't be finished overnight. The X1000 will open up possibilities that didn't exist before. Hans |
