New SAM 440 EP owner experiencing random crashes
Just popping in

Hi,

I am the proud owner of a rev3 sam440ep board. I just got the thing up and running yesterday.

Everything seems to be working great, except that I cannot get any sound in dvplayer (AHI is not muted, I have installed the a52 codec 52.2).

Dvplayer also frequently locks up the system (mouse cannot move, soft reset doesnt work) requiring a hard reset.

I have also experienced frequent crashes with ibrowse (also locks up the system, soft reset doesnt work) requiring a hard reset.

These crashes seem to occur randomly in both instances.

I am new to the amiga and any insight or tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Try this link for DvPlayer

http://amigaworld.net/modules/feature ... ?op=r&rev_id=147&cat_id=4

Try disabling the IBrowse gif.codec emulation in Workbench prefs.

First of all you should use the latest version of IB2.4, and download updated MUI classes, but even if you do it often crashes when you start the program, I only hope OWB gets upload and download support soon, so I don?t need to use this old and buggy program anymore.

Can?t rally comment on DvPlayer,I have not used it so much, if is possible to disable overlay you should try that, if not download mplayer.

What do you mean by

"Try disabling the IBrowse gif.codec emulation in Workbench prefs."

Do you mean IBrowse Prefs and set the GIF image decoder from internal to external, ie. datatypes?

And why do you think IB-lockups are GIF-related?

No the prefs for emulation in Workbench.

Somebody gave the tip to me (Think it was kicko) and it seems to have made a big difference.

Thanks for the suggestions.

IBrowse is no longer crashing with the gif codec JIT disabled.

I installed all the codecs and still don't have sound from the dvplayer.

Does my dvd player audio out need to be plugged into the SAM board audio in?

Seems to me that it's not a Dvplayer problem. Did you try to play a sound using Prefs/Sound ?

Did you set *all* units volume to the maximum?

Yeah, remember that AHI has 5 units, all of which need be unmuted (how stupid is that for the default? No other OS does that.)

simple answer here

choose for all units o to 4 this

CS4281 : HiFi 16 Bit Stereo ++
and then set the volumes for each to maximum

Ofcourse, then save these settings.

problem should no lnger be theere with DVplayer, if that is, the problem was not DVplayer to begin with, but user error on the AHI preferences in the Prefs drawer of Amiga OS.

Cheers.

P.S. Also, dvplayer itself, as I thin tired of life gave me that info from one of my posts on amigaworld.net,

dvd vcd.plugin on os4depot, and replace the current plugin for dvplayer to the new one if on a sam board, this will fix many, any problems.

Infact, I have not had a dvplayer problem since this plugin.

Cheers again.

Thanks for all the help folks, dvplayer sound now seems to be working.

I am still getting random crashes in both ibrowse and dvplayer, although they seem less frequent. Basically, Any usage of either ibrowse or dvplayer results in a crash. Could I have a hardware problem or is anybody else experiencing this?

I updated MUI libs, disabled the JIT emulation of the gif codec, and turned off hardware compositing. DVplayer and Ibrowse both still crash frequently (especially if they are both running).

Any other tips for me? Is it possible I have a hardware problem?

try also to verify regularly that all the electric cables are well plugged. For me, a slightly loose cable from the wall into the "transformator" (is it the correct name in English?) resulted in very bad freezes...
