AmigaOS4:: Mono for the X1000
@nicholastaylor

vidarh wrote:
Quote:

The biggest challenge, however, would be porting the various native parts of the runtime libraries. GUI toolkits etc.

It depends a lot what your goals are. If you "just" want Mono on X1000, that's a *lot* easier than getting something complete enough to run most C# apps.

and you responded a.o.:
Quote:

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by most c# applications though, because c# is also compiled using Microsoft Visual C#.

The actual language is in fact not that big a part of the implementation of a typical .NET project. Most of the functionality you need will be something you call in the .NET framework, which consists of a huge amount of runtime libraries, DLLs (on Windows). These are the same whichever language (of the .NET compatible ones) you code in. This is not only GUI toolkits, but also a lot of the data structures, storage, file handling and communication basics needed in most applications.

I guess that would be what vidarh is referring to. "Most C# apps" is a high goal, not because the C# part is big, but because most C# apps will also be typical .NET apps which draw heavily on the .NET framework. (Substitute "Mono" for ".NET" in the above wherever it makes sense; I haven't had any experience with Mono myself yet.)

Best regards,

Niels

Is it in fact possible to read BDs or do you have to decode DRM stuff as well?

Surely they've made it impossible for anyone but Microsoft and Sony to read?

AmigaOS4:: RunInUAE beta: Now with floppy drive noises!
@ChrisH

Excellent ! I'v just tried RunInUAE and it's really excellent.

Question : for WHdLoad, how does it work and do I need exacltly ? Only WhDloads or I must have a complete 3.0/3.1 system installed ? I'm little confused on how to make WhDload games/demos work.

ADFs work like a charm !

AmigaOS4:: DVplayer 0.72 or the DVD drive (pause problem)
@Amigo1

GOOG here and not smooth (mainly when speed move on the movie).

The region code not change something about speed (be carefull, limited attempt to set the region code on dvd drive).

I think improvements are missing on DVDPlayer and/or additionnal libraries (video or sound) because sometime a DVD seemed to have better speed than another one (and theorically DVD have same resolutions (I said 2 DVD with 16:9 format, for example).

AmigaOS4:: Amiga X1000 Poll
@tommysammy

I don't understand a lot of the specs. I'd be interested to discover what would be the main area that would give the x1000 setup a distinct advantage over say an intel pc or mac.

I think it would be important for all of us to know the advantages of this chip over the intel line of chips? Bearing in mind that I have been away from the Amiga for such a long time; Will the use of this chip be a tremendous leap forward?

At the moment I feel that I am clinging to past a bit. What A-eon can be thankful for is that even modern PCs and Macs aren't as good as they pretend to be.

AmigaOS4:: USB Printers & OS4.1 on Samflex
@rwo

Not sure if i'm in the right thread

I have a HP Laserjet 5L which works wonderful under OS4
I first used it with the AmigaOne Parallel port (it has Centronics) but switched to USB (via a Centronics/Parallel to USB cable) which works also very good except one little glitch.

The printer has an inbuilt "sleep" mode (which can't be turned off) to save energy after some time of non-using.

It needs some kind of "software nudge" to wake it up and this worked perfectly with Parallel but it does not with USB, seems the nudge is either not sent at all or doesn't fit thorugh the USB line

I was using a1parallel.device and now usbprinter.device with the HP_Laserjet_5 driver

Could you maybe add this "wake up nudge", please?

For now i always have to press the button on the printer myself and resend the print data

Thanks a lot for the great drivers

edit: Scrap that, i need to have it installed on the rear sockets which seem to be the only ports that provide enough enery (or stability?) to work with devices.
Having it plugged in there and no more strange problems

/note to self: Get rid of the front USB port backplate
