You can encounter such things even now. Lot of IBM equipment contains a warning on lifting heavy objects in safety precautions. It even comes with thinkpads/docking stations

Floppies last as long or longer than the HD in my laptop. I'll be glad when all types of spining media are dead. VIVA the USB DRIVE!! I can drop it, scratch it I have enen washed it twice. It keeps on going.
